Hello everyone, got my first mopar took me ages to find want i wanted and now i got it. My question is at idle there seems to be a popping noise out the exhaust. It's dumped before the diff with 3'' pipes and ultraflow mufflers. The motor is
440 stroked & bored to 496
10.5 comp
elderbrock 88cc open chamber heads
solid cam lift int.565 dur.274@.050 114 Lc
exh.565 dur.274@.050
cam degreed in @ -3.0
920 cfm holley
Elderbrock torker intake
I haven't driven it very far but when you bring the revs up the popping begins to disappear, any thoughts or suggestions is greatly appreciated

"rotor phasing". Drill a 1/2" hole in the top flat of the dist cap about 2/3 of the way between the center and the #1 terminal and freeze the rotor w your timing light at idle and check rotor phasing. You sure picked a monster for your 1st one

Thanks for the replies, haven't even had time to check the timing yet. The engine info was on the builders sheet the previous owner gave me so i hope it's allright. I thought i may as well get a good car first time around.

Why would you even post that?

Is it possible to get a video or a recording?

Allen Here's a novel idea, let's not throw a bunch of parts at the car hoping it will fix the problem and instead spend a little time diagnosing it first. Life was a little easier when I was just a wrench.

I would try a video but i'm heading out of town for work for about 2 weeks so i'll have to wait until then. What would the ideal timing be? We have 98 octane gas here.

with that cam 38 to 40 in as soon as possible. cold with big cams like that they often fire some in the headers especially with mufflers on. more timing will help I think. warm they always clear up.
