4 or 6 Bow, how do you know which one you need? have 1 RR and 74 satellite, both no headliners.

My 74 has a 4 bow headliner.

I would have to check but I think mine is a 4-bow. Do you have the metal bows for yours? If not you'll need to round them up, repro headliners don't come with them.

I have 2 sets of 4 bows, but I don't think they are right!

i got bows for my 74 (6) they all fit good except 1 wich rubs on the roof not sure whats up with that they are a matched set its the one behind the dome light

There are 4 bows, 3 are the same size and 1 is longer. The longest is attached closet to the rear window.

6 bows setups were on 71s. 4 bows on the rest. However if you have 6 bows you can use them since locations weren't removed from body

Start at the back window with all the bows installed but pointing to the back of the car. Move from the back and push the bows forward one by one. You or a helper will have to hold the fabric under tension so the bows don't pop back until you get the front of the headliner up onto the metal picks by the windshield.

need more help not for sure which holes the 4 bows go in, there are many holes to choose from, I can't seem to find the right combo, also does anyone have a pic of one installed, thanks, Dean

Was going to take a pic with my digicam but my batteries were dead. Mine's a home made headliner but it matches the dimensions of the original it was patterned after.

Installed, the rod closest to the back window measured about 8" from the back side of the window trim(closest to the glass) to the seam on the headliner where the rod's pocket is sewn. The next rod was about 17" from the first rod. The next rod was 15" from the second rod. The final rod was about 8.5" from the 3rd rod, and then you hit the front of the windshield a little after that. This was measured on the headliner in the middle, even with the dome light. Hope this helps, I can get you a pic once my batteries charge.

I imagine the installation guides talk to this, but sometimes it will take several "test fits" to get the proper lateral spacing and stretch on the headliner. The headliner sleeve material goes all the way to the edge of the headliner. Since the headliner has more material than is necessary to cover the roof, some must be trimmed. Ergo, the sleeve must be trimmed also. But, since the headliner must go all the way to the interior roof rail channel, and the sleeve can only go to the end of the headliner bow, a little more sleeve than headliner must be trimmed. So, you have to trim enough sleeve to prevent it from bunching up at the end of the bow and keeping you from properly stretching the headliner laterally across the roof. BUT,... don't trim so much that you don't have enough sleeve to allow the rod/bow to hold the headliner up against the roof.

That's why it may take a few iterations of test fits for the proper amount of sleeve trimming. That, and using the best combo of each of the three holes in the roof rail for each bow end to fit into.

Took me (anal-retentive-boy) most of a day to get it right.

Also, lots and lots of those spring-steel paper clamps really help.

Alright seem to have bows right, but are the bows supposed to be up againist the roof? and when you mount the dome light does that bring the center up to the roof line? What a FUN thing to do!! thanks, Dean

I have 2 cars with out headliners and taking measurements from both, also the one i'm installing has hushmat coving the interior, so i been having to search for holes, lucky i have a second one without it, thanks for help. taking so long because of too many kids activities

No problemo. My girls are 5 and 3, so I'm lucky to get maybe a day or two a month to "work" in the garage...

The visor and rear view mirror holes were pretty easy to find. It seems like the rear coat hook hole was the toughest. Although I didn't have a spare car to look at, so that should theoretically help quite a bit.

The trim piece for the edges of the roof seam - the piece that goes over the clips on the side of the headliner, that is; if you put in on and then have to remove it, it might have a tendency to pull off some of the clips. So best to use some 3M glue (I used 3M 90) as well as the clips to hold on the sides of the headliner. And then only put on the side trim when you're pretty sure you won't have to remove it. I think it goes on after the 1/4 window trim and A-pillar trim anyway, but I'm not sure.
