At the risk of starting yet another "New Challengers are pigs" flame war with the haters on here, I had the scales here today from doing a customers race car so I thought, I have a variety here so lets see what they weigh. Here are the results: 2010 R/T Classic 1971 440 6Pac 1970 Hemi The `10 R/Tc had a 1/4 tank and is a auto The 71 had about the same and is a auto The 70 has roughly a 1/2 tank and is a 4 speed Nobody inside any of them Rick

Wow those LF's are all way heavy, even without a driver in car. No wonder we all relocate our batteries.

Blown71x: THANK-YOU!!!!!!!!! Perfect photos, the effort is very much appreciated!! I guess now the only thing missing would be a '70 small block Challenger, and an SRT.

A friend bought one and I honestly never looked at one close up until I saw it... they are big cars, but to me they look good. Nice riding cars also. I'd take it over nothing, that's for sure. It would be nice if they made them a little smaller and lighter. Either way I can't afford one

That's what I was thinking also. I wonder where/what the 26lbs difference LR - RR comes from on the Hemi car when the 440 car is only 1lb different?

Am I the only one that noticed that the new Challenger weight bias flip flops from front to rear? The front has 25 lbs more on the left, and at the rear, it has 25 lbs more on the right! Is this the magic of balanced engineering or just luck? The new Challenger is a winner. Those that complain about the weight are the ones that wouldn't buy one anyway. Its like the ugly dork saying that Megan Fox isn't his type. It wasn't going to happen anyway. Since the last of the E body cars were built, we all grew up and became accustomed to quiet interiors, (Thank you Chrysler Cordoba!) Power accesories and nice stereos. Now after a loooooong drought of true rear wheel peel factory hot rods, Ma Mopar had the stones to stick their necks out to build a retro design that mixes the old with the new. Air bags, sound deadeners, power seats, independent suspensions, ABS brakes, onboard computers and ALL the wiring adds weight. SURE, they could have crafted the bolted on body panels out of aluminum or fiberglass, but then it would cost even more than now. Drive one of these instant classics, then drive your old car. The new cars are comfortable. They do not puke coolant in 110 degree weather even after prolonged idling. They stop and steer well. Try to get more than 25 mpg in a 71 Challenger 440-6. Sure, the new cars weigh more than our old musclecars. They were not intended to be a recreation of the 1968 SS A body cars. Would YOU want to commute in one of those beasts?
