A work aquaintance of mine has a 2008 SRT charger

Told me that it costs her 100 bucks at jiffy lube to get an oil change.

Why in the heck would it cost that much?

Does it take special tools?

Can something like this be done in your own driveway for cheaper?

It just boggles my mind, but then again, my cars don't have computers...sooo

anyone?

I don't think my Crossfire was that much - and it takes 8.5 qts of synthetic and a Mercedes oil filter.

The words "SRT8" "HER" and "JIFFY LUBE" are the only ones you need to remember as to why it cost $100 for an oil change.

Ok, I kinda figured it was crazy!

I almost choked on my pepsi can during lunch when she said it cost that much.

Before I told her she was just bent over, I decided I better see if there was a trick to this "new car oil change" I was missing. I didn't know if something had to be reset or something space age like that!

I had to make sure I wasn't an idiot either!

I don't see much out of line with that price...at least up here in Canada.
Oil filter....$4.95, 7 litres 5W40 or 0W40 Mobil 1 synthetic oil @ 11.00/litre....Add that up with 15 bucks for labour to boot!!
Add some tax and a hundred bucks don't even cover it.
That's what a service cost on a SRT anything.....unless you're using something cheap and cheezy!!
Oh...and I might add... the 6.1 litre recommended oil fill from factory IS Mobil 1 0W40 or 5W40 synthetic.
Anything else and you're using the wrong stuff.

The price is fair. Check with the dealer, they will concur. Synthetic oil isn't cheap. The 6.1 HEMI is a great motor and it deserves the best.
ALSO... you really need to follow the manufacturers service recommendations if you ever hope to have anything covered under warranty. I had an engine problem pop up in my 2007 Ram 1500 5.7 HEMI and the service contract people wanted STRICT and accurate service records. Thats hard to do when you do all your own oil changes, tire rotation and trans service as I do. The bill for my repairs came to $3800 and I was dang lucky that the dealership went to bat for me. A member of my local MOPAR club had a similar problem...Her Caravan had paint peeling from the roof, and they wanted oil change reciepts as well. This is no lie. What the heck does OIL CHANGES have to do with peeling paint? They said that the oil change records is a testament of how well the vehicle is cared for. What a travesty.

The 6.1 takes 7qts 0W40 synthetic oil, not cheap oil anywhere you buy it,plus the filter and labor.
Put anything else in it and the engine has trouble and Mopar will not warranty any repair. They will want lof receipts and can have the oil checked at a lab for type.I just retired from a dealer and have seen and been thru all of this,100 bucks is right in line for that engine.
Just my 2c worth

The main reason I take mine to the dealer every 3,000 miles. Trust me, I know how to change oil and a filter. At $82.00 a pop, it's just another insurance policy and documents who services my car.

It's mainly the cost of supplies, I change my own oil in my '06 Charger and it's right at $50 anymore buying Mobil1 from walmart which is the cheapest around here, it's $60-70 from a parts store.

The labor isn't anything, the new hemis are the easiest engine I've had to change oil on.

Yes they are easy. At nearly $10 a quart for Amsoil at Napa, easy to see the $100 price tag. I also invested in a Fumoto drain valve for easy and clean do it yourself oil changes on both new Hemis.

Hey, SEARS may be okay for service on a Caravan or Neon, but for an SRT anything, I'd only feel comfortable doing it myself or taking it to the dealer.
