I am in the midst of an engine swap- 440. Old set up is being replaced by Mopar aluminum water pump and housing and Bouchillion single groove water pump pulley.

The fan only extends a little into the shroud, whereas before it seemed like it was further in. So how far should the radiator fan extend into the shroud?
Could I have put the fan on backward?
Could the swap to a different water pump/housing and pulley changed the distance?

Thanks!

The rule of thumb I've always heard was to have an inch between the fan and radiator for otpimum cooling, so you could use that to determine if your fan is far enough into the shroud.

I thought the optimum distance was to have the fan about half way into the shroud..
With it all the way in, there was more turbulance or such...

From what I understand the fan blade should be half way into the shroud.

Allen Here's a novel idea, let's not throw a bunch of parts at the car hoping it will fix the problem and instead spend a little time diagnosing it first. Life was a little easier when I was just a wrench.

yeah but I don't think a 1/4" either way is going to kill you

So how far should the radiator fan extend into the shroud?

1/2" to 3/4" Is what was listed in the instructions for the after-market fans I've installed over the years.

I'd prefer a bit closer to 3/4 of it inside the shroud
