Look at about 18 initial and about 32 total and adjust
for best performance

I have a 906 headed 440 with 10.0 comp and I run on 92 pump. I have my dist set for full advance by 2000 rpm and I like 36 to 38 for my best performance without any ping. I have quench in my 440 as I use quench pad pistons and it helps let me run more timing without ping then a non quench eng. With iron heads and no quench at 10.0 comp I dont think I could run 38 total. Ron

Most of the iron headed wedge motors like bewtween 34 and 38 degrees depending on compression ratio and local weather conditions. The higher the altitude the more timing they like also :scopeout Usually you want to run as much initial timing as you can without the motor kicking back on the starter and as much total timing as you can without pinging
