I need some advise on a 727. I am working with a 67 Hemi GTX that has been sitting for about 10 years. The transmission was like new when parked. Now it wants to hunt for a gear and sounds like it is slipping. I feel sure it is in the valve body. I have to have this car drivable tomorrow by 3 PM and will only have a few hours to get it taken care of. Any tips on pulling the valve body, and what I should be looking for?

Yes, when you put it in drive and take off it feels like it is shifting up and down between 2 gears...like it is hunting for one. The engine RPM is to high for the speed of the car, so it is slipping also.

At what speed is it "hunting" ? .. is it slipping at all speeds? ... from a dead stop ?

Yes, seems to be from a dead stop. I moved the car a couple of blocks, so maybe 25-30 MPH and it was slipping. Also up, down shifting and I didn't want to push to hard on it and burn the clutches. Even if you put it in low, it don't feel like it is in low and still sounds like it is slipping.

what does the fluid look like? ... how about the level also?

Fluid is starting to get dark, so I know it is slipping.

I would DUMP the ATF that you have in there(and get some typeF) and put on a new filter.....

Probs with the VB ? .. not likely.

I know you don't want to hear this but you probably need to replace all the seals in the tranny if it's loosing pressure like that...Seems you can let a fresh trans sit indefinitely but once you run it and then sit unused the seals become brittle and don't seal well after extended periods of time...Sometimes you get lucky and sometimes you don't....Don't run it too much like that or you'll smoke it...
