You believe what you want .... I RTVed the gasket ON TO the pan and then lightly oiled the opposite face.

And I have been doing this LONGER than 40 years !!

The cork gaskets barely stop leaks when new. They will never come off and go back on and still seal. No way.

Doc, take your oldtimers medicine and join the modern world. There is no way in hell a cork gasket will last 30 years being used over and over again. You got to come up with a better story than that.

I paid $22 for the new gasket. Not really sure I needed it. Once it was all said and done, my leaks were coming from multiple other places. I guess it would have saved me replacing the cork style 3 times.

Moral of the story, if you think it's the pan seal, look elsewhere too.

About $15 difference for a gasket that will seal over and over again without the need for the expense of a tube of sealer even if the pan isn't perfectly straight.

You CHANGED this post .....

NO old-timers medicine here. But how about YOU ? ... I hear that you are ready for that rocking chair ...

The MODERN WORLD ? .. then why are you messing-around with the 60's and 70's stuff like you do? And I have not "used that gasket over and over again" like you insinuate. I have maybe pulled the pan 5/8? times over the years.

And AGAIN you avoided my simple question.

To c-guy ....22 beans ? .... I don't know what the current pricing is on cork ... but I could be convinced to use the "modern" stuff.

I sealed a TH350 with a flexible rubber gasket and GE Silicone 1 door and window sealer from Home Depot.

My experience with cork is that oil eventually soaks into it and it weeps out the other side. I cut a leaking low mileage cork VC gasket in half and it was soaked with oil all the way to the middle.

The best thing about the reuseable gasket is you don't need to spend time scraping all that RTV off when you do change it.

I fought with a leaking differential cover, it's a major pain getting all that RTV off both surfaces.

Believe me I wanted to use a mopar style reusable gasket for the th350, but couldn't find any such animal. And, yes silicone is a hassle to remove.
