You'd be surprised how light early Dakota's are and more plentiful than A-bodys.
curb weight 89 Datoka 3,610 pounds
Reality weight...2715 pounds (3.9 V6 in stock eliminator trim before adding weight for class). It is easy to get a V8 Dakota in race trim under 2800 pounds.
Nice Dak, but we already have a nice little 83 D150 Full Size truck that I'm guessing is under 3,000# hopefully closer to 2800# haven't had a chance weigh it yet
Not looking to build another truck, the present plan is a very lightweight small block street / strip screamer

Why no Colts? Been working for me as a cheap light smallblock bracket car (3 different classes w/few mods).
I would have to sit in the back seat to drive it

Why not use a 66 Dart convertable. Take the windshield off and matchrace that "thing" behind you.

A 1960 or 61 Valient are by far the lightest Chrysler offerings.
Dennis Jokela
Partially true. The '60 was 4dr only so they aren't the lightest. The '62 Valiant is the lightest because of a light front end suspension design. The '61 would weight the same if it had an upgraded '62-up front suspension.
The Valiant will be the lightest do to the shorter wheel base 106"('60-'66) and 108"('67-up) vs 111" for Darts. Lighest for each body design family of Valiants- '60-'62 - '62 '63-'66 - '63 '67-'69 - '69 The downfall of the '66-earlier cars is the 3" narrower engine bay. The '70 Duster is the lighest of the '70-up 108"wb Mopars.

I've always heard 67-69 valiants were the lightest.
I agree with this and also the 63 to 66 A-bodies. Ron

My 68 Valiant with an aluminum head 360/727, 8 3/4 with ladder bars and coil overs weighed 2,940 lbs. with a mild steel 10 pt cage, 2x3 frame connectors, full interior(light weight buckets), all steel except hood and glass windows. Oh, and no heater or radio. My 69 Dart with 340(iron heads)/727, 8 3/4, SS springs, full interior with bench, heater and radio, all steel including hood, no cage or frame connectors weighed just over 3,200. Both weights are without driver. Hope this helps

70-72 duster/demon would be my first choice, 67-69 barracuda coupe 2nd and 73 Duster/Dart sport 3rd, they all are 108" WB and the duster/demon/dart sport have less metal in the rear of the car, pop out 1/4 windows and no wing windows which all add weight.
My old 73 Duster was 3120#(with me in it) mostly stock with a sb/904/8.75, it had a glass hood and centerlines but wasn't gutted. My current 68 Dart 2dr sedan is 3450#(with me in it, 1/2 tank of fuel) with a SB/833/8.8, draglites, no heater, manual steering and brakes, all steel.
The 2dr sedans have a lower shipping weight but that's because they were no option cars with 6cyls, 7.25 rears , 9" brakes and 13" wheels, add all the factory V8 stuff and they get pretty heavy.

Rick, there's a clean rust free 64 Valiant for sale in the Fort Worth area. It has new suspension, new brakes front and rear, an 8 3/4 with a 3.23 posi, new interior, perfect glass, and all the trim, chrome and bumpers etc. I know, I did all the work and then sold it,and now it's for sale again. Contact Bill at www.texastrailerman.com. He's a good guy and a racer to boot.
