Hello,

In a previous post I asked for opinions on whether I should get a lock-up or non-lockup A904 for my '73 Duster project - thanks to all who responded.

In the meantime, it was suggested to me that instead of getting a late model A999/998 to take advantage of its 2.71 low gear ratio, I should instead rebuild an earlier A904 with the low gear set.

I will be using a mildly built 5.2L Magnum and an 8 1/4" rear end with a 2.45 ratio.

Any thoughts?

The A999 is a stronger unit to start with, more clutches and wider band.

A 904 out of a Cordoba should have a low gear set. Unless you are going to 500+ HP with a trans brake, a 904 will hold up just fine. Just remember to adjust the second gear band after break in(approx 500 miles)

What year range on the Cordoba?

Would any late-model A904 work? I would imagine that any tranny from an M, J, or F-body would do the trick...?
