I'm kicking around dropping some 17" rims on my 74 Satellite. Cost is the big drawback.

I have seen plenty of sets of the "Bullet" Style mustang rims that can be had cheap. These are the ones that kinda look like a Crager SS rim.

I know people use Mustang rims on their mopars but I am not into the late model Mustang stuff.

Are there specific years to get/not get? i.e. TPS Switch, offset, late model bolt patterns or problems?

Other inexpensive rims that work that aren't mustangs are an option too.

TPMS was optional until 2008, so if you stick before those years it shouldn't be an issue. You can always remove it and I think you'll wind up with a plain wheel, I think.

There are probably a ton of threads on this topic, search for stuff by AndyF, he's done a lot of his work towards B-body platforms. I'm an A-body guy (and C-body guy), but I think I remember that the B-bodies like about 4.5" backspace, so a spacer may be needed to be optimal. The backspace on the 94-04's is about 5.7", so you're looking at a 1" spacer. You'll likely need a spacer to work with the smaller Mustang center bore, too. The later model wheels seem to have a bit more BS, so something to consider. Once you add the cost of spacers on top of wheels, it almost makes sense to get wheels that have the right offset from the start. If you hit ePay, you can find a range of new wheels that aren't bad looking and close on BS for maybe $100/ea.

FWIW, in your shoes, you may also want to look at some Jeep wheels. They have the right center bore to start with (pretty sure here), aren't quite as big on offset, and aren't bad looking. I think the Liberty is the place to start checking dimensions - the GC's changed bolt patterns at some point, I think.

There's a couple variables to consider when doing this.

What are your front brakes like? Discs or Drums? What years Mustang are you taking the rims from? 94-04 are different than the 05+ (current generation) because the newer ones have more offset. That will dictate a different width spacer. Some rotors have a different leading "snout" that allow you to use the rims as is while others may require that 1mm removed.



Those are Konig 17x8s on my challenger. They are for a 94-04 Mustang. They have a 28mm offset. I'm running 1 1/8" spacers (30mm). I am also using 11.75" rotors from Advance Auto. After the spacer is on the rotors, the leading edge of the rotor is just small enough to use these rims without cutting the center register (very happy when I found that out). Make sure you try your rims on BEFORE you mount tires. It should make life easier if you have to remove material from the center. Of course, the rear is not a problem because there's no register on the rear spacers and they jut out far enough over the nub that the rear rims would traditionally use.

I am not a fan of spacers so I will probably pass.
Looks like I will be checking out Jeeps and other sources.

You guys are very helpful.

Are there any others beside Jeeps and Fords that may have the right rims?


P.S. Love that yellow on the Challenger.

Mustang rims fit just fine without any spacers once the proper modifications are made. I think Mustang rims are a killer mod to make to Mopar muscle cars. Those rims are strong, well made, inexpensive and there are lots of different styles to choose from.

Hey, that RED brick is a beautiful car! I never liked the 67 68 Valiant grille, but your car looks great. Nice stance and it looks like it corners well. Nicely done!

what vehicle is this for?

pre-05's have 5.72" BS, '05-up are more like 6.35". to get them to sit right on the vehicle, you'll need some .75"-1" bolt-on billet adapters, newer, something more like 1.25"-1.5".

for the pre-05 wheels, if it's an A body, using a B body rear should get you where you want the tires to sit without a spacer, but you'll need to open up the center register ~.070. if it's a pre-70B or an F/M/J, an E body rear should get you the same thing (no spacers on rear). E body, a C body rear or '71-up B rear...

I run ~'02 mustang bullitts on my 5th ave with 3/4" thick bolt on adapters and 255/50R17 tires.

I bought my rims new for $480 shipped, actual FMS rims, made in the USA (vs. cheap aftermarket rims made in taiwan or china), and spent another $190 for the billet bolt on adapters. the only way I know of to get rid of the spacers on the front is to run AndyF's or Dr. Diff's big brake kit, IIRC they custom make the hubs to accomodate the mustang wheel's greater offset.

Yep, a B body axle in an A body is one trick for sure. Buy custom axles with the center register turned down to the correct size and then the Mustang rims bolt right on.

Up front on an A body car the 73+ spindles make the track wide enough that you might not even need a spacer. With factory 11.75 rotor the hub on the rotor needs to be turned down a hair and then the Mustang rim will slide right on.

This car uses aluminum hubs to reduce the weight but they are the same width as stock hubs so there isn't anything trick going on. Just weight reduction. The rotors are factory Viper rotors that have been re-drilled for 5x4.50 pattern and then 17x9 Mustang rims slide right on there with 275/40-17 tires.

On my '65 I use the 13 inch Viper kit and then the Mustang Bullit rim with a custom center. The 13 inch Viper kit is designed to use a 17x8 5.72BS Mustang rim.

Probably could have been space out some, but no rubbing even when on the race track pulling G's.

i too, like the mustang rims, but they have very little backspacing to them & just don't seem to look right. iirc, wheel spacers run ~$70 each & then (as another poster mentioned) you might as well buy a similar rim w/ the proper backspacing.

Actually they have lots of backspacing. 17x8 with 5.72 BS is the typical Mustang rim.

Oh man, Ive been wanting to upgrade the Dusters cop wheels ever since I saw my brothers Bullit wheels. Ive got a B-body rear end already. My question is: will the Bullit wheels fit over my 11.75 disc and stock calipers?

my 5th, the fronts are 11.75" rotors, stock calipers, the rear is a 12" wilwood drum-in-hat pbrake disc brake kit

I'm running .75" thick bolt-on billet adapters, they were ~$190. the wheels were $480 shipped, new Ford Motorsports stock, the tires are 255/50R17 BFG KDWS's
