Which Dodge truck would have the shortest light weight starter. The ones on my Dakotas measure 6" long overall, 92 and 97 mdls. That is too long to work on my 383 with Hedman 78030 headers. Anybody know what would work with this combo?

Allen Here's a novel idea, let's not throw a bunch of parts at the car hoping it will fix the problem and instead spend a little time diagnosing it first. Life was a little easier when I was just a wrench.

That McRobb starter sounds like a winner. Do you know the price? I have had crappy luck with Powermaster starters in my Charger. I have 10.8 to one squeeze and it starts hard after warming up.

The 440source mini-starter needs a small dimple in one tube, at least with my 130 tooth flywheel and Lakewood bellhousing. 78030's are cheap enough and need some dinging anyway...

Their website (RobbMc) says $299 for the small starter, but it sure looks nice. I just got a starter for a '89 dodge van 360 for my van :P It's already a small one, but probably similar to the small one you already have. Thankfully I don't have those same clearance issues

Yea they're cheap alright, but the full size chr. starter fit fine with them, just subject to heat soak. The chr. mini seems to stick out father from the block and when you ding the header it's still very close to the mini. Been there, done that. Thanks for the reply.

I've done the ding but am a long way from putting the drivetrain in the Dart... did you have a problem with heat-soaking the mini?

I know the old full-size starters were more prone to that problem but this is my first mini.
