Here is a thread of mine in the archives. If you use the search function you'll find even more information.

So am I right in saying I can adapt any pump to suit my engine? Ive seen loads for sale but not sure what to go for or how it would mount?

I have dry sump on my R3 W8 motor and all I can say is if your motor has wet sump now keep it, It more hassel then its worth. with all the lines, remote filter, oil canaster, pump, new belt drive, In short don't do it.

Im just about to start hyaving the motor built and I figured it would be much safer to run it at high rpm with a dry sump system. Only thing is I know nothing about it!

Well like most things, it is quite simple once you understand it. Read the thread that I linked to and then do a search for other dry sump threads on here. Lots of parts are available for the SB. I had to build some parts for my BB but the SB motor is used heavily by circle track racers and most of them run dry sumps. So there are lots of dry sump parts available for SB engines. You just need spend some time looking.

You'll want to get the block machined so you can run oil lines into the block. This is a wet sump block, on a dry sump block you won't have the lower line. The factory block has a 3/8 NPT fitting there which might be large enough or you might want to open it up. If you're going to scavange from the valley you'll need a fitting up there also.

Here is a drive plate that I make for Mopar engines. I designed it for big blocks but it should fit a SB because the bolt pattern is the same. You might find similiar products from Moroso or CV Products.

The six bolt Mopar pattern drive plate is part number AR236. You can get them from Mancini Racing for $145. I don't know anyone else who makes a spline drive setup for Mopar engines but maybe there is someone out there.

I also make them in the Chevy bolt pattern. Lots of guys run a Mopar damper with the Chevy front bolt pattern because then it is easier to buy drives and pullies.

I make several different block plates for big block and Hemi motors but of course, small blocks don't need these.

Here is a shot of that 340 W2 dry sump motor being dropped into an early B body car. It all fit just fine. The dry sump pan cleared the steering linkage okay and the Doug Nash five speed lined up just fine with everything once all the mods were complete to the sheet metal.
