A friend is freshening up the 289 for his '65 mustang and bought a new isky solid lifter cam.I told him about most people using deisel oil and the comp additive but he said the paperwork with the cam recommended racing oil and not to use the deisel oil since most companies are reducing the zinc in the deisel oil.
What are you guys having good luck with now?

I use Brad Penn 30wt break in oil with the Comp Cams Break-In lube too. Maybe a little overboard with the break in lube but I would rather be safe than sorry...

I think that following the cam manufacturers recommendations would be a good idea. Okay, now that the weekend is coming, they surely won't answer the phone. The local auto parts store has a few decent choices. I use Valvoline VR Max. It has higher zinc than standard oils and costs about $ 4.00 per QT. Z Alt has been advertised in the Mopar mags. I also use the Comp Cams break in lube during cam break in and at every oil change as cheap insurance. I dont drive my hot rods but 1500 miles per year, unlike my 40,000 mile per year '07 Ram truck.

Trick Flow engine oil supplement works well after it has already been broke in
