Well after test fitting the shield in the car & not being able to start any bolts I decided to be smart & test it out on the floor with easy access. Well after grinding the seams & the bolt depressions in the case it is close but no cigar. SO ANY IDEAS???? I thought about enlarging the aluminum inserts to make up for the close tolerance. I can get about 3 bolts in but just not the last one. Also the floor pan & firewall are not the problem.....it's lining up of the bolt holes to the motor / transmission.... ??????? V10

yes it is a Big Block.... Not sure of the case year.........I'll be darned if I am going to pay someone to move the internals of my transmission to another case... I'll shred that thing up & send it back to CSR!!!!!!! I think I have ground away all the interference with the case itself.....IT's the fact I think the engine holes dont match... I would have thought for $300 +$$$$$$$$ It would have fit..

Well I ended up enlarging the aluminum inserts where the bolts go...2 drill sizes. It worked... I pity anyone who tries to install one of theses in the car WITHOUT test fitting. It would be miserable!!! O & it was defitetly the Big block version

Had the same problem with my new shield!!! Our old shield fit fine with this tranny but the new one I had one hole that just wouldnt go!!! I ended up forcing it and driving it home with an air ratchet! I know I goobered the hole in the block so I will have to helicoil it next time the trans is out!!!

Same problem on my '71 big block 727. The carbon fiber around the mounting hole was hitting the trans case lifting the shield slightly to where the holes were out of alignment. After fighting the shield for a few hours, I just took it off for now. Drilling the inserts as mentioned sounds like it will work for me. I was thinking of grinding more clearance in the trans case too? Anyhow, I'll mess with installing the shield when I get the car lift

The first time I put my shield on, three bolts went in fine but the 4th one (didn't matter which one was last)was very hard to get started. After I ran it a season, the next time it went on fairly painlessly. Mine came with socket head screws(use a allen wrench), but I changed them to ARP 12 point bolts. Takes a smaller socket. You need to fight through the pain and GET THAT SHEILD ON. It won't do your feet no good sitting on the bench in the shop. Brian Dunnigan

And unless CSR changed them, the allen bolts were about 1/4" too long. They bottomed out in the block before they got tight. Maybe they designed it for a car with a midplate between the engine and transmission.

Forgot that! Had to trim our bolts to get them to fit also!

both my csr sheilds on 2 different cars were off on one bolt hole.so to annswer your question NO! they are not suppose to fit,the ones that do, are mistakes.
If that truly is the case then their quality control is spot on perfect.
I actually took my trans down to Summit Racing and tried every sheild the had in stock and not a frikken one fit
I went with a blanket
