Hi,

I have been chasing a slow leak on my daughters cruisr for a year and its finally reached the point where it is losing freon overnight to a day and half. I put gages on it today and found the system sitting zero charge. Put a vacuum pump on the system and pulled it down to -28 in hg and let it set, lost 4 inches in 5 minutes. tells me that its a pretty significant leak. Since it has been a progressively faster leak rate, I am thinking possibly ac compressor seal or lesser possibility evaporator? Anybody have any experience with this problem and what the most common failures are regarding the ac?

04 PT Cruiser Turbo 5 speed, 96,450 miles.
Thanks for assist.

regards,

doc

Check the hoses for oil where they fold over to go down the front of the engine. On my 2005 both were leaking in the bend. Get some freon with the red dye in it and charge the system. That will show you the leak pretty quickly seeing as the vacumm loss was a great as it was. These guys here are super sharp when it comes to PTs. http://www.ptcrew.com/?sid=5f04e913a0e57ffae973fe1e04c7d91f
