Took my RR steering column partial apart to paint it today and when reassembled it no longer has any detents when moving the shifter. Nothing fell out, bowls tighten up together, spring is still in lower bowl behind the shifter but no detents anymore.Anybody learned the hard way how to put it back the right way and could pass that info along. Thanks Bruce....It' a '69

You won't feel the detents until it's hooked up to the trans. However you should have to pull the shifter toward you to move it out of park position even without it being hooked to the trans. If you have to do this I'd say it's OK.
