Last winter, I was contemplating changing my main body on my Holley HP 950 to the (this is a little confusing) QuickFuel version of the Proform 1050 cfm main body for 4150 series carbs. I bought it from QuickFuel but is also says Proform on it. If I remember correctly, I think it cost a little over $200. There was a moparts thread about this and I said I would report back once I went to the track in the Spring.
Well, I went to the track yesterday for the first time this year. Other than switching main bodies, there's been no changes to my car. The air yesterday was comparable to my last time out in November except I had a strong 10-20mph head wind yesterday. I used the exact same jets, my old squirters, and baseplate.
I set several personal bests yesterday. I made only 2 passes on the full 4bbl, the car went 10.774 @ 124.37 with a 1.479 60' vs. my old best of 10.799 @ 124 with a 1.489 60'. With the old carb it would normally run a 10.80 - 10.82. I was able to shift at 6400 with the motor pulling all the way, as opposed to 6200 with the old carb. I think the strong headwind was a factor. I could really feel it buffeting the car at speed.
The biggest improvement was when I ran on the primaries alone. I picked up almost a tenth. It went 11.408 @ 117.24 with a 1.53' 60' vs. my old best at 11.49 @ 117. In order to stay above 11.50 for eliminations, I had to shift at 6000 and use a restrictive stock air cleaner and it still ran a 11.53 @ 116.
So, I set my best ET, quickest 60' and best ET on the 2bbl. I wasn't really sure what to expect. Sometimes you make a change and things get worse... I'm sure going to a Dominator would help me more but for around $200 and 30 minutes to make the swap, this wasn't bad.

I have the same body and I love it Mine looks like it was built by Pro-Max I removed the Dominator and bolted that carb on and will never go back to a Dominator. Gus

Sounds like you are happy with the change. What track did you go to? Did that main body swap also get you screw in air bleeds (did you have an old 950HP without screw in bleeds?). And what was the venturi dia of the new main body? The Holley 950 uses a small venturi, 1.375" dia, which gives great signal, but restricts airflow somewhat. This is from my notes for the Proform 950 main body: 67108C handles 950cfm carbs. 1.450 venturi x 1-3/4 baseplate

Hey Jim,
I went to Capitol. It's not known for great 60's there so the 1.479 is really impressive to me. My best 60' at Capitol had been 1.49. My previous best 60' was from MIR. Also, I think the strong headwind (it was blowing straight down the track) hurt my MPH and ET.
Yeah, it has screw in air bleeds vs my old (early version) HP 950 main body which didn't. I don't have the exact measurements handy about the venturi size. I can find out. It's big. It's almost a straight shot down to the baseplate with very little pinching in. By hogging it out, they lost a lot of the narrowing of the venturi. I wasn't sure how well that was gonna work. However, the boosters are smaller than on the 950. It seemed very responsive to me. i.e. the quicker 60's.

I'm curious how you set up the new main body (jets, etc.), since I'd expect it to "want" much different settings than the HP 950. Did the QF piece come w/ recommended starting points?
Also, it was so windy the last couple of days I'm surprised the local tracks even ran a full 1/4 mile.
I called Quickfuel and spoke to one of their tech guys who helped me out before I ordered it. I told him what I wanted to do and he asked me a lot of questions about my combination and said they would setup my new main body with air bleeds that should be pretty close to what I need. I must say, I'm impressed with QF.
The wind at Capitol wasn't that bad that we had to run 8ths. In the early afternoon, I'm guessing it was a steady 10-20. It died down toward the evening and eliminations.

I googled several sites, including QuickFuel, and I didn't see much information except a 2008 press release?
I had trouble finding much online documentation too. I got started down this path by noticing that you can buy 4150 series, 1050 cfm main bodies in the Jegs catalog. Somewhere along the way I found an online thread where another guy had success with the one from QuickFuel so I called them. They sell 2 versions of the 1050 main body, one is around $200 the other is like $260 and the only difference is weight. I know Proform and some others sell them too. Like I said in another post, my QF main body is really a PF man body that QF said they CNC port and they swear it really flows 1050cfm.
Maybe Dulcich (are you listening Steve? ) can do a little testing for us in one of his upcoming builds? I think a good way to really quantify how effective these bigger main bodies are would be to get a test mule on a dyno and get some real numbers.
I'm certainly no expert when it comes to carbs. I'm constantly reading and learning like most of us are. I figured for $200, it was worth a try since it's no big deal to roll back to the HP 950 if I wanted to.

Just wondering if someone would have a part # for the main body.I would like to convert my 950HP over to the QF 1050 4150.
Ack! I could not find my receipt with the part number. I've been looking all over for it to get you the number. So, I called QuickFuel this morning and got it. It's 6-1050, it's their Downleg Booster 1050, 4150 Series Main Body. You can only buy this part from them directly. The price went up a little on the first of the year. It's now $225.98.

Good deal glad it worked for you. How would it compare/differ from the Proform 1050 main body with annular boosters? Do you think the downleg vs annular would show much effect? Love your car

I'm sure going to a Dominator would help me
I wouldn't be so sure about that....when we dynoed my 572 the QF1050 was only down 5hp from an 1150 Dominator. Both carbs mounted on a 440-2 manifold with the Dommy using a 2in 4150/4500 adapter.
The QF1050 was significantly more responsive to throttle pressure movement vs the 1150 and idled nice and smooth. It's a better choice for a street car, inmo.
Congrats on the new bests. Great looking car

I have been told a 850 will flow better than a 950 hp. i used a 1050 proform MB to do a E85 carb and put it on my duster it it was within a tenth of my dominator and the response was super.
