Last winter, I was contemplating changing my main body on my Holley HP 950 to the (this is a little confusing) QuickFuel version of the Proform 1050 cfm main body for 4150 series carbs. I bought it from QuickFuel but is also says Proform on it. If I remember correctly, I think it cost a little over $200. There was a moparts thread about this and I said I would report back once I went to the track in the Spring.

Well, I went to the track yesterday for the first time this year. Other than switching main bodies, there's been no changes to my car. The air yesterday was comparable to my last time out in November except I had a strong 10-20mph head wind yesterday. I used the exact same jets, my old squirters, and baseplate.

I set several personal bests yesterday. I made only 2 passes on the full 4bbl, the car went 10.774 @ 124.37 with a 1.479 60' vs. my old best of 10.799 @ 124 with a 1.489 60'. With the old carb it would normally run a 10.80 - 10.82. I was able to shift at 6400 with the motor pulling all the way, as opposed to 6200 with the old carb. I think the strong headwind was a factor. I could really feel it buffeting the car at speed.

The biggest improvement was when I ran on the primaries alone. I picked up almost a tenth. It went 11.408 @ 117.24 with a 1.53' 60' vs. my old best at 11.49 @ 117. In order to stay above 11.50 for eliminations, I had to shift at 6000 and use a restrictive stock air cleaner and it still ran a 11.53 @ 116.

So, I set my best ET, quickest 60' and best ET on the 2bbl. I wasn't really sure what to expect. Sometimes you make a change and things get worse... I'm sure going to a Dominator would help me more but for around $200 and 30 minutes to make the swap, this wasn't bad.
