i know procomps reputation, but i wanted to see first hand. so when i ran across this head kit for cheap, with the ability to return parts i don't like for my money back i jumped on it. i got everything on a great deal. i could have made about three hundred bucks just putting this stuff straight on ebay, that's how cheap i got it. i bought heads, rockers, valve covers, & valves.

i bought a set of 440 Chrysler edelbrock victor procomp knock offs as a kit. let me tell you what i've seen first hand.

the valves are not much better than a stock production valve (the exhaust was stainless, but a magnet would stick to the intake valve). they look decent on the machining, but they were about .250" longer than they needed to be. plus the heads was supposed to be for 2.25"-1.88" valves. when i measured the seats they are actually for 2.200"-1.81" valves, & they sent 2.25"-1.88". way to big for the valve seats. the valve covers look great, but a couple of holes didn't line up with the holes in the heads. the rocker arm kit looked very very nice, then i started looking real close the nuts for the adjusting screws didn't sit flat on the rocker arms. one side touched when tightened, & the other side had a .025" gap between the nut & the rocker. all 16 are like that. there's no what that would work. i sent the valves back for a refund & i'm sending the rocker arm kit back for a refund as well.

the heads are very nice castings. they look as good as the dart's i've ran in the past. good looking valve job, nice thick bronze guides, the seats look like their about 3/8 thick steel, & very smooth castings. i would buy another set of "BARE" heads from them again & probably a set of valve covers, but that would be it! no way in hell would i put a moving part in a motor made by procomp.

how does a company stay in business selling [Edited by Moparts - Family Friendly Site - Keep it clean] like this? you know they must get a truck load of junk sent back to them every other day for warranty or refunds. if they are the future of our hobby, we are screwed.

i know everyone can't afford good name brand parts, to be honest that's why i bought them, but there are to many good prices on small block chevy & ford parts to ever justify buying this stuff. i'm sure if everyone looked over their stuff from them like i did, they would send it back & save up the extra money for the name brand stuff.

you chevy boys have no reason to have to buy this cheap crap, but if you must, do yourself a big favor & buy them bare & put quality stuff on them. it's a time bomb waiting to happen if you don't.

i'm not bashing procomp, just stating the facts that i've seen first hand. i have no problem running parts made in China, as long as their good parts (Scat, Eagle, Patriot, ect.).

if you have this kit, you better check everything out. you don't want to run a big solid roller cam with the stock procomp valves, & make sure your seats are for the right size valves. it will hurt flow if you don't. better check your rockers too.

You answered your own question...buy chinese junk, and you get chinese junk. Seems simple to me at least.

IMO chinese made parts are inferior.

IMO: I would rather spend 50% more and buy a N.A. part. My son and his friends are going to need a job in the future for one thing, for another I don't spend my money on stuff that "might be okay".

Doesn't suprise me.

Guys are always about not being able to afford the parts they really want so they settle the cheapest crap that they can get when they would have been better off waiting a few more paychecks and buying the higher quality part in the first place.

How's that for a long sentence?

That (sort of) explains my confusion re: why the specs say 2.20/1.81 some places and 2.25/1.88 others.

You should really put a link to this on the Race forum, since most of the Procomp heads questions I've seen posted have been there, not here.

Going cheap never is really cheap in the long run. Buy American, the job you save may be your own.
