I'm embarassed to ask this now but here it goes - I just finished putting my front suspension back together and I go to put the rubber brake hoses on (factory front discs on a 70RR) and I notice that I would have to stretch the heck out of the hose to get it to run from caliper to frame.

I mounted the calipers on the backside of rotor if viewing from the side...did I screw up and the caliper should be mounted on front side of rotor?

What really makes me stupid is I have a FSM and I thought I had things oriented the way the pictures showed!

Thanks

I'm thinking so... Don't feel bad, your not the first one to do it. Which way are the bleeders facing?

There is an old saying that we use at work for stuff like this.

"We do it nice because we do it twice"

THe bigger problem is if the bleeder screw is on the bottom.

I have done it on 73+ A-bodys a couple times

longer hose should hook it up

bleeders up top to get air out

Sounds like you have to swap calibers side to side.

I hope it's that easy but I'm looking at the link that RodStRace provided and there is a picture in there that clearly shows the caliper mounting bracket on the front side of the rotor and mine is on the rear so unless I'm missing something did I put the whole D*** assembly together wrong?

I could get longer hoses I suppose but this is a fresh build and I have already bought everything new and besides I'd like to have at least one thing put back together the way the factory did it!

Hey I did the same on my 70 a-body,But the hoses worked fine and I was told as long as the bleeders are on top and the hoses do not get bound up in any way leave it alone and that is just what I did--Steve

I'd suggest popping the ball joints loose w a puller as opposed to a pickle fork and swapping the spindles to get the calipers/adapters on the front sides then your hoses/everything are all good and you are only out some extra time & no damage done and you've gained some useful info/experience

In some applications, there can be a benefit / clearance improvement by swapping spindles from side-to-side (and making sure to install the calipers where the bleeder is UP). I actually did this when installing U.S. disk brakes on my Aussie Valiant.

Of course in the O.P.'s case it was a mistake, but I'm just sayin'...

Down to just a blue car now.

I was thinking the same thing, I'll have to see if I have a puller because I did destroy all the rubber boots when I took apart the old stuff using my pickle fork - If I don't have a puller I'll pick one up.

Time to head home and have a beer and laugh about this one - thanks again guys!
