Guys,

Is it normal to have half an inch (or maybe a litte more) of pedal travel in a power disc/drum car before all the "slack" is taken up?

In other words, from where the brake pedal sits at rest, I need to depress it 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch before I get any movement of the pushrod.

Once I depress the pedal that 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch , I can feel some kind of "contact", and then the pushrod will move.

The slack IS NOT being caused by a gap between the pushrod and plunger of the master cylinder, I know the pushrod length is properly adjusted.

Thanks.

Greg

Get under there w your light as a helper presses on the pedal & you check for a linkage pivot w too much play.

Hi Robert,

That's basically what I did. I can push the pedal down with my fingers before I feel that "contact", which I know is not an issue with the pushrod/plunger.

Basically you are telling me that is not normal, right?

Thanks.

Greg

Hello Greg, it's been awhile. You know I'm not sure how much play is normal as I have not had PB's in decades but it must be too much play if it is not sitting well w you. If the linkage under there is "high and tight" and moves the pushrod immediately then your good there then the next slack potential is the threaded rounded nub. We're not talking about the brakes applying but strickly about reducing the mechanical clearances right?

It's been all winter...

I am pretty sure the problem I am describing is causing my low pedal.

The linkages don't feel or look that "sloppy" to me.

It almost seems like there is something other than the pushrod that is not adjusted, leaving that "gap" that allows me to be able to push the pedal with no resistance before I feel contact.

The contact I feel seems to be in the booster somewhere, not in a visible location.

I will have take a look for that threaded round nub when I have time.

Thanks for your help.

You know I completely missed visualizing the booster and from what you just posted it sure sounds like the play is inside it but yeah the Q (which I haven't helped on) is, is that amt of play normal on a PB setup or would another booster take care of it. And if it is normal would it be possible for you to tighten up the threaded nub a bit to compensate somewhat to get a better pedal? Gotta run (literally). Catch up to you later.

I'll give myself a bump for the weekend.

Is there anybody who can tell me if the apparent slack I have is normal for power disc/drum car?

Greg responded to u pm
Im a little laid up from an accident ..
i need a couple weeks to recover , BUT

I know its stupid fix , something is installed incorrectly , wrong pushrod , something stupid..
We can disconnect the lines . bleed the master
But first well check out what you have. I have a 71 PDB setup on my bench right now for reference , Pedalsm - pushrod and etc .

But you can bring the car over and well put it on the lift .. Or when I can drive again , Ill stop over .. I saw the white thing the other day ..
cant wait to see it outside ..
