So, earlier, I had good pressure and no leaks and I was feeling pretty good.

took time out to change the plugs and wires on Gina's mini van and then go to double check the pressure at the regulator as well as show dad all was good and I have no pressure at all and it's making a awfull noise

Make sure their was fuel in the cell and there was. Even added a little just to be safe.

Try again and no change.

Drain the cell and take it all apart again. Rotor seized to the shaft and little metal dust all over

Tomorrow I'm going and picking up the MF. I'm done with this one

That's what I run Bill 400-2 (titanium) it's been working well for two years now....sorry to hear your having problems, but I do believe if your going to stay with that style pump you really need to mount it vertical

Mine is 1994 vintage. After running it for a few years, a piece of brass debris, finally stopped the bypass valve. Cleaned it, and it's good to go. As far as the mounting orientation, why not make the call to BG? If you already have, sorry.

Yes it was. And for a while I thought I got a deal.

I probably wouldn't near as upset about it had it not worked fine just a couple hours earlier

After this and the carb that wasn't what it was supposed to be it'll be a long time before I buy something of the sort at a swap meet again.

I have never bought used racing parts at a swap meet for good reason. I also don't sell my old racing parts. They're either good to me for something, or junk.

I agree with you on that one, just not worth it with a lot of the used parts.

Sorry...Bummer, don't BG pumps have a history of leaking?

I don't think the mounting positon has anything to do with the leak.

Send it back for a rebuild by BG, they only charge for the parts they use or need. The rebuild and testing is free.
I haven't had a problem with mine unless I get the fuel low enough to suck air, then I have to crack a line at the output line to bleed the air out.

Yes, Raff, I was running alky W/ top lube.

I've also heard of the leak history with these pumps. Witnessed first hand everytime some one would come to the trailer asking if I had seals to help.

I'm not sending it back to BG.

I'm als not thinking (now at least)that the mounting had anything to do with the leak. Probably more a dry seal on start up. Fixed that by lubing the seal and motor shaft with top lube when I assembeled it.

Couldn't have been dry this time. Worked one minute, commited suicide the next.

bill: why not send it back and get it repaired to have as a back-up in the trailer. your already out the purchase price and if it dosen't cost much to repair you have the extra pump. might even find some 1 that is willing to take it knowing it's history for a used price (repaired) so they have a spare? dave

Better ? is why won't they send me the parts so I can do it my self? I'm not going to support their buisness practice of not sending out repair parts

And I'm not one to push my junk on anyone else. I know you know me better than that.

Well I have been using a BG400 for a few years. I did have one leak once when the car sat for a few months and I did not drain the tank. Put in a new seal and it works fine again. Unfortunately due to not being able to get a seal quickly I ended up buying a second pump. Now I have a spare, that works fine.

As for them not selling the parts, I can sort of understand that. I mean if it were to be improperly repaired and leaked everyone will bad mouth the piece and therefore the manufacturer, just my Mallory also does not sell the parts to repair thier pumps or regulators as well. I have used them in the past and had them rebuilt by Mallory with no issues. I would be willing to bet most companies do not sell repair parts for their products for the same reason. Also how can you condemn the pump maybe it was a defective seal??? FWIW it is the same seal and o ring arrangement as Magnafuel, and PE as well. Just saying....

Bill the original 400-2 that came in the roadster was an Alky setup. It had sat for a couple of years and they never drained the tank, I flushed it all out good and when I fired up the new bullet on gas it never leaked, but the 1st time at the track it would lose pressure after the hit....ended up pulling it apart and the inside of the pump was all corroded from sitting for so long with alky in it, but it never did leak, my system is set up per BG's instructions and as said previously haven't had a problem with the new one and it sits for months at a time with fuel in it

I would send it in and let them rebuild it, IMHO, they really are a good pump

I also understand them not wanting them worked on by anyone else, but do think they should supply additional gaskets with instructions when you buy a new one just in case, not everyone can afford to have a spare sitting on the shelf
