I have two of these fittings on the case of my 727:

The aspect on the left is the part that actually threads into the case, the aspect on the right is the part that the hose is supposed to bolt up to and run up to the cooler in the lower part of the radiator.

I'm having a hard time finding a means to connect lines to these fittings. Is there a special fitting I need to purchase? Do I just use standard steel brake line when I'm ready to form my lines? What's the best way to go about doing this?

I'm waiting on getting these lines run so I can start my engine up and start tuning and dialing it in

Thanks for your help

Pat

5/16" dia various lengths of prefabbed lines in the vertical rack at your parts house are what you need. they have an inverted flare fitting slid on each end before the end is flared. Cut one end to length and slide the fitting back on and flare it w your 45 deg flaring tool

Thanks robert. Problem is the prefabbed lines at my local parts place are male ends and so are these fittings on the trans. Are you saying to
remove the old male fitting and put The right "female" fitting on? Or is it some adapter between the two? Thanks again.

I'm not aware of any adapter to attach 2 male fittings to each other, so your going to have to cut the male off the hard line and replace it with a female type cap fitting

Pat my mistake as I forgot that they are male ends but I have connected 2 of those parts house lengths of 3/16" lines w the male ends with a brass double female inverted flare fitting for my brakes so they are available and I would surely think that those brass double female inverted flare fittings are available in 5/16". EDIT what GTX6970 said if you have a flaring tool it might be better to cut the ends/add the female fittings and reflare as I'm wondering if though the brass female unions work connecting 2 of the parts house 3/16 lines the depth of the shank on the right end of the 5/16" trans fitting in the pic MIGHT not let it seat. If you can locate the brass female connectors mock them up & see what you get & good luck!

That sort of brings us full circle. I was curious where to actually buy the female ends for the flared fitting that is in the trans case. Everywhere I looked didn't turn up anything.

I know its no help, but I think I cut my original lines and flared new lines using the original female fitting.

I am lucky to have a source less than a minute from my door. I would try NAPA.

That bottom pic is useful and available at many hardware stores. Just remove the male fitting from the line and replace it with the female to match your trans fitting. Cheap and works fine.

I just got new trans lines from Fine Lines, I think they are $45.

Hadn't considered that. Found them for 78/79 2wd/4wd Lil Red Express, which I imagine would be pretty much the same thing for my 80 BB Ramcharger. 45 plus the shipping is probably a little more than I would have wanted to spend, but at this pace, if I check the local stores and can't find that fitting, I might go the Fine Lines route. Thanks!

I grabed a set of lines from a 2x truck with SB 727 and used them on my BB 440 727

grab some from a JY and cut them add some if needed use 5/16 comp coupling from auto parts store

I have a few spare pieces if you want them

you can change the fitting in the tranz with a 1/8 pipe x whatever flare end you want also

not a biggie IMO

JY are your freind and chep on that small stuff
