Does anyone know where I can find a steering shaft insulator(rag joint) part #3575303 for a '73 Charger? MoparPartsAmerica is sold out.

I'm going to guess that that same rag joint was used until the end of Fifth Avenue production in the late '80's so it still might be available through the dealer.

Thanks everyone. I'll try a couple of the local Dodge dealers around town first. I heard about the help parts working, but the fact they have no metal plate could lead to 100% loss of steering if they failed.

FMJ cars and trucks used something similar but it's a lot thinner, you would have to double them up to do the same job. People have done it and it works, but I'd rather use the right part.

I would imagin the rubber is to absorb the flex in the steering shaft. The mopar piece has metal plates in the rubber and I too, would rather go that route.

Does it really need to be a rubber piece or does someone make a solid mount? I really am not in love with the idea of a rubber biscuit in the steering shaft.
The 73 and later cars using the isolated K-frame need the extra flex joint. The traditional coupler will compensate for column alignment but not for the movement of the K-frame that is mounted on the rubber bushings. That is the purpose of the Rag Joint/Flex Joint. If you use aluminum spacers instead of rubber/poly bushings on the K-frame you could probably get away without it as long as you could get the column to align correctly.
I too prefer the factory biscuit. It has the 4 steel wedges so if the rubber fails the steering will still work. BUT if you install the generic rubber disks the way the factory did it has a failsafe design in it also. There is a steel strap, on the opposite side of the disk from the shaft it bolts to, going from bolt to bolt effectively criss crossing each other. They each form a kind of loop. Each loop interlocks with the other loop making a failsafe arrangement. If there was no rubber at all it would be sloppy but still work.
If installed the same way the factory did in the later models it would be as safe as the "Biscuits".
Besides they are reinforced rubber and I have never seen one fail. I'm sure many did but I have never run into one so they can't be too common.
