One for the trans guys - Does the "front" band on the TF trans govern the 1-2 or 2-3 change?

Cheers

Both... It needs to apply for 2nd gear & it needs to release for 3rd gear...

Fair point on the "release" - I should have asked when it "applies" -

So it applies on the 1-2 change?

Yes.. The reason I mention release is Torqueflights can have what is called a "shift overlap" where the front clutch applys quicker than the front band releases...

Thanks again - Reason I ask is that I've just fitted the 390 stroker with a 248 duration .520 lift cam - and the 2-3 change started to "flare".

Ive fitted steel planetaries and it has a good converter (904) a while back but the band started to slip whe we put the new engine in last week.

I'v had it serviced now - and its holding OK - but someone told me that the SB strokers are hard on the "front" band - so I wanted to make sure I know what to look for and monitor the changes and make sure nothing weird happens.

I'll watch the 1-2 change like a hawk and one day I'll have to read up on how TF actually works

Most likely the band adjustment was way too loose.
