When Iwas putting the headers into my 65 383, I had to move the dipstick tube out of the way and it came out (or so I thought). Looks loke it might have broke off clean with the block? It's not sliding back into the hole. Am I totally screwed? Are any of the adjustable (Mancini, Lokar) tapered so they might fit into the hole?

If it broke off you need to get the peice out of block.

That tube is pushed into the block. You need to get someting in there and pull it out. Might want to cut a slight line in the broke part of the tube and bend it out so maybe you can get a grip on it.

Any idea how far the tube goes into the block?

About an inch. Try to insert somethig shaped like a nail-head against the end (ridge) and pull

4 inches of dipstick and then there should be a ridged bit an inch up the tube. Is that still there?

Try a machine screw just slightly larger than the inside diameter of the remaining dip stick tube.

Then thread the screw into the remaining tube in the block and then try pulling the tube and screw out.

Hope this helps.
