What pray-tell is the easiest way to get the switch bezel back into my lower dash piece in my 69 RR? I assume because of age the lower dash piece has shrunk????

Thanks to everyone for responding?

Same dilemma with a '68. I had to go up behind the dash and remove the nuts that are on the studs of that lower section of the pad(4 nuts?) and then things were loose enough to force the panel back in.
I have to admit...that was a bit of a retarded piece of engineering

They are a big pain in the behind. You'll curse more then a few times. I find it a bit easier to install with the switches removed. And i leave as many lower dash pad nuts lose as posible so i have a litle wiggle room with the pad. Then fight the switches in. Them screws are no fun from under the dash.

This won't make it any easier but, cut up a 1 gallon washer fluid bottle [round and white type].

Then use a section/piece as a shim between the panel and the bezel where it is the tightest. You'll have to work/force/ it in still, but it won't gouge the pad if you are carefull/patient. Good luck!

In addition to leaving the nuts loose, I slicked it up a few times with meguire's vinyl conditioner. That softened it up and let it slide in a little easier.

I use heavy paper tape on the pad and steering column to make sure I don't scratch them when I am literally forcing, wiggling, tweaking, the switch panel in place.

i seem to recall hearing if you put the piece inside a plastic bag and use that to help slide it back in place and then tear and remove the bag after it is place.

I had a friend help me, I never really saw him get frustrated before. Before this job I mean.

Get a hair dryer put it on high and blast the lower pad. This will heat it up and make it more flexible.

like mentioned above don't tear up the pad or bend up the plate.

So then, is it best to install the switch bezel into the lower dash piece BEFORE putting it onto the dash?

Thanks for all the replies!

Can't do since two of the larger pad fasteners are behind the switch plate. Pad must go in first. I struggled for two hours with mine and finally said, "close enough"

Seems like i wanted to remove to plate for some reason last year. I elected to leave it in there after finding it hard to remove. Was pretty sure carnage would ensue if I moved it much more. I remember being real pissed after dealing with it.

Concerned now that I may not have fixed whatever that required it to be removed. Great.
