i've never had a fuel cell but my tank in the bee will need replacing soon. i've always wondered about the foam in fuel cells. what does it look like? is it glued to the inside of the cell? do they all come with it? just curious.

it looks like this:

both of my cells came with foam already in it, but it's just placed inside.

think of it like a very "open" sponge. it provide surface area for the fuel to "cling to" and thus stops it from sloshing around like an open tank would.

It floats to the top also when you fill the tank.

I would have left it in if I did not find tons of it floating in my fuel filter and having my car run bad.
The last time I filled it up the car coughed and died pulling out of the filling station on the day I was to install my new carb.

This is when I found all the foam fragments in my Fram fuel filter cup.

I left the filters in my carb as well to catch anything that mey get past the main filter.
