here is my work in progress, its a 70 4.10 b body dana in a 71 cuda, trying to make a 71 super trac pac set up, does this look right? does it look like your 72 cuda set up? bolts to the frame and connects to the upper leaf spring bracket, please pardon the dust

The B-body rear is narrower than the e-body. So...did you bend the rear bar to be narrower to get it to fit?

Here's a pic of the 71-72 B body rear bar axle plate..

That hole in the center looks way to big like someone cut it out. My plates have a small hole to go over thw bolt in the spring.

I agree, appears to be a modified 72' plate, possibly to fit the 73' and later spring isolator mount.

I cut the spring perches off and rewelded them in the correct ebody location, I think I moved them outward 1" on each side

Andy,

Leaf spring rear suspensions get a lot of anti-roll from the twisting of the leaf spring packs. If you want to increase the roll rate with the existing springs you can increase the leaf spring bushing stiffness. Alternately increasing spring rate will also increase roll rate.

Ahh...thought you might've moved the springs inboard w/a Dr. Diff kit or something.

Does anyone have a kit to install a rear bar? and is there a great benifit/harm verse price ???
I was kicking around the idea of a rear sway to help with street handling not track...

As for first Q, Firm Feel has a nice rear bar kit that is frame-mounted vs. axle mounted so there's less unsprung weight. I know there's a kit for 3rd gen B-Body, not sure about '69 B-body though. Might not work with some aftermarket rear disc brake setups. www.firmfeel.com.

As for 2nd Q, can't say...

(Or '70, sorry...)

'71 B-bodies have all the mounting holes predrilled for rear bars. I can't imagine that none came with one. Maybe just cop cars.

I've seen plenty of them in '71 and I have 2 '72 with rear bars one is a 72 RR with Gtx package and another is a SSP 400 4spd. Both factory...

Locating holes for the anchor bracket bolts are present on 71' b-body frame rails making retrofit of the 72' and later rear bars very easy. Likely, there are/have been many 71's running around with rear bars, fact remains for 71' the factory never offered a rear bar factory installed on the b-body, with the possible exception of a special order Police package.

"72 RR with Gtx package"?
There wasn't a "GTX" package or option offered in 72', any U or V coded 72' Road Runners were renamed "Road Runner GTX".

Sorry for not writing the exact terminology for a 72 and writing "package"..But your wrong it was an engine option so your wrong too I guess cause with the "option" of picking a U or V code it was then a RRGTX...Some things that I have seen come with that "engine option" were torque boxes and a skidplate on the K-member...

I currently have a 69 Coronet I am parting out with a factory ordered rear sway bar kit. This car is loaded...... front sway bar and 440/hemi leaf springs and the kicker is it only has a 318!

Thanks guys, that is a big help. I'll flip thru the factory books that I have to see if I can home in on the exact info. But basically it looks like rear bars were fairly rare until the early 70's on B body cars and even later on the A body cars.

IT WAS a 71/72 rear sway bar plate. They began its life like the ones 72roadrunnergtx attached and noticed right why the mod was made. I tried to modify to fit on an iso clamp assembly ( pic is mine ). I got those trusting on seller being the correct ones for my car ( without pics )... they weren't. Being outside USA and they didn't exist down here I tried to make them fit somehow.

I enlarged the holes and welded shims to fill the step on iso clamps...

here is another view showing the welding deal:

they were to work PERFECT except for one detail: the area raising up to rod link provision was meeting with axle housing, making imposible to fit. That was what made to take the conclusion the axle pedestals are shorter on 73/74 than 71/72.... and even some ppl said I'm wrong about, geometry doesn't fail, and I'm still practically sure of that although never compaired axle pedestals side by side.

If wasn't for that, they were to work!

At the end had to buy another ones, this time the correct ones WITH PICS!

I'd love to see some pics of that factory 69 bar.

I have the Firm Feel bar on my 69 RR with a Dana 60 and Dr Diff rear discs, no clearance problems.

A '69 Coronet with a factory rear anti-sway bar? Maybe a cop car with an aftermarket setup on it??

72-74 E-bodies got the rear bar with the 340 Rallye/Cuda package. 318 cars were not supposed to get the rear bar even if the Rallye/Cuda package was ordered. I don't know about 72 318 cars, but 73's got the bar no matter what engine the car came with...as long as the Rallye/Cuda package was ordered.

By the way, I was watching this vintage road test of a '71 Charger SE on YouTube and they mention that it has a rear sway bar. Can't see it in the video though.
