Okay here we go again! The exorcist mobile strikes again! EG: 78 powerwagon with a 440 I built with new plugs, Accel High Temp Super Stock plug wires, Pertronix plug-n-play distributor( ignitor 2 module), flamethrower 2 coil, all new wiring in truck. etc, etc,

Replace my coil 3 times and the ignitor module is the second one that I just installed last weekend. NOW it's running like crap again and when I look under the hood at night it looks like the 4th of july with all the cross firing from the plug wires (which only have 1700 miles on them!) [Edited by Moparts - Family Friendly Site - Keep it clean]!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Some told me that if you use a resistor plug you need special wires??? What has caused my plug wires to burn up so fast? Granted I have headers and tow with this truck but please don't tell me I have to go back to stock exh. manifolds???

Also if I step on the brake at a stop light and the pedal slowly drops could that be the brake booster? It has a new master cyl. and brakes.

(1) Not sure but I dont think so and it is not causing your problem (2) need better quality plug wires/boots (3)Air still in there or the M/C is bad (even though it's new(er).

Thanks. Ya, the brake problem is different just wondering if I had a vacuum leak there... The master cyl is like 1yr old with only 1700 miles on it. I had the exact same problem 1700 miles ago and installed a new MC but was hoping that was not the case again.

What is a good set of plug wires for a big block with headers though? When towing I'm probably generating enough heat to warm up a Walmart.

not sure. There was a (related) thread yesterday but it was more on the proper boot angle

I have probably replaced 3 MC's on the bee. All of them leaked and were "NEW". The remans are just junk now a days.

This last one is better.

As to the arcing you already know the answer on that...I have had good luck with the firecores.

Are your headers leaking or give off a lot of heat in the bay?

My next master cyl I'm gonna just rebuild myself. Headers don't leak but I forgot to install the heat shields when I assembled and the headers have to heat up the engine compartment alot because I use the truck for towing. Last weekend I installed some RCI(?) header heat tape and it burnt almost black after a test drive. Hoping it helps in the long run though. I'd hate to go back to stock exh. manifolds.

Can you please show us some pics of the engine? Where is it timed? Good ignition system, but fireworks are not good...under the hood anyway...

You want to hear about "posessed" vehicles? 20 years ago I had a Camaro.(YIKES) I was in the garage about 25 feet away when the engine began to turn over..ALL BY ITSELF! I had the keys in my pocket! It didnt start, but it really freaked me out. I looked inside to see if someone was in there and nobody was. I popped the hood and pulled the negative cable, and the engine quit spinning. It turns out that the starter leads had rested against the header pipes and melted through the insulation. Later I went MOPAR and the fun really started.

I have a 83 Mirada that did something odd to the wires when it had the original Electronic Sprk Control ignition. Was running perfect for a several weeks getting some awesome fuel mileage, stopped on the interstate to get fuel when on the way home from Florida and when I started it up it ran terrible, spent some time checking plug wires one at a time, plugs, put alcohol stuff in the gas, nothing. Drove it 350 miles at 40mph, all it would do. Turned out it knocked out 4 new Standard Ignition plug wires in one whack. Replaced them with some Mopar wires and it did it again in about a week. Switched to a Mopar Electronic kit and it was good to go for several years. Decided it had to be some kind of voltage spike caused by the f'd up ignition system going out.

Place a heat shield in front of your master cylinder to block the header heat.

1970 FE5 Duster 360/904/3.91's SOLD 1973 TB3 SpaceDuster 340/4spd/4.10's SOLD Moparless for now but when the opportunity is right I'll have another one.

Accel Super Stock wires are very cheaply made garbage ! I would also suspect you may have excessive voltage output from the alternator. A simple check with a volt meter would tell.

Sorry for the delay in response but I HAD to get this truck running again so I went to Schucks/O Reilly auto parts and picked up the most expensive plug wires the had on hand which were the MSD super conductor wires. Sorry SunroofGTX I promise next time I need plug wires I'll order through you. I just absolutely couldn't wait. I had to tow my stranded trailer loaded with lumber before it disappeared... I called Pertronix and asked them about the plug wire dilema and they said basically what you guys said. The ignition system wants to send 60,000 volts to the spark plug and if it can't it fries the wires... which it did. Anyways the MSD's weren't my first choice but they seem to be far far better than the stupid Accels I had on. And the truck ran great. I also used some aluminum from pop cans to wrap around my headers for heat shields near the plug wire boots and completely encased each plug wire in wiring loom tubing. Looks redneck as f@#k but at this point I don't care if it works. If it don't I'm probably going to have to go back to stupid exhaust manifolds.
