Need to repaint the dash frame and steering column in the Demon. Not looking for 100% factory correct but I want it to look right (flatness/texture/etc). What type of paint should I use?

Mike Mancini has the correct paint if you decide to go that route.

not sure about correctness, but i used laquer based paint on my dash without getting the paint too wet, and it looks good with a semi-gloss finish. It does not have a "flat" no-gloss finish. If you need the no-gloss finish I think you need to add something to the paint?

If you want to go cheap - Krylon Black Semi-Flat. Looks darn close to factory, IMHO.

I thought of this but I was looking for something one step better. I would hate to have this stuff start peeling, chipping, etc once it's installed.

Does SEM or someone make something for this?

I used Krylon semi-flat in my Charger, and it's held up fine since the early '80s.

If stripped to bare metal, would a primer be required (or advisable)?

My painter buddy helped me with mine.Shot it out of a gun,but he added a flattening agent to dull it down. Was experimented, but I think it ended up with 30% mixture?

Rustoleum black auto primer and semi flat black Kyrolon on mine - after I cleaned all the armour all applied by the previous owner and sanded. Both good products that hold up well. Factory correct? - not sure. Some models used a textured paint but the Kyrlon looks fine.

DDL 9324. I just had some mixed at my local Painers Supply for a 70 challenger dash and column. It's lacquer paint and the texture they use in my opinion is much greater than the original. Almost feels like sand was in the paint. I'm not really happy with it but I've been wanting to try the forumla for a while to see how it looks. Oh, it was also $100 per quart too. I would look into another formula, I really don't think you will be overly excited if using the original one. Just my .02

I guess it would depend on color...For black I used satin black Rustolium...the semi-gloss is a tad shiney.

I hear you, it sounds like this paint,9346 different numbers but had the same type of finish. I used it on a shaker. And I have used it on dash frames, but I like 9388 a whole lot more.

I love this paint DIA9388 it's the interior black for a 71 challenger. It has no texture and matches exact other OEM dash frames I have laying around. I'm pretty sure everyone would be happy with this black for interiors. It has that look that you can't get out of a spray can.

This is the 9346 paint. It's dusty too.

Thanks for your input Challenger1. I will have to try the DIA9288 on my demon dash next time. I will not be using the DDL 9324 again, that's for sure.

Plasti Kote's Classic black lacquer is very close to the factory finish.
