A lot of history there.A lot off pioneers in drag racing. I seen Smokey Yunick and crew.Smokey was wearing his trademark hat, white coverals and leaning against the post watching the drags.(19:09) The Chrysler RamRod driven by Herman Moser raced (22:00) As we all know this car gave birth to the Ramchargers engineering and race team a few years later. Arlen Vanke is shown a couple times in his wild ride..before he had a factory ride with Chrysler. Interestingly,GM (Ed Cole) and Chrysler (Tex) were present even though there was "suppose" to be a "ban" on factory racing. Thanks for posting the video.I really enjoyed it .

Was that Eddie Hill in the Allison powered digger ? I seem to recall that he had one way back when. I don't care who you are ..........when you are towing a rail on a single axle trailer with white walls behind a Cadillac station wagon , you are living the good life ! awesome post !
I believe that was Art Arfons. I think Eddie had a twin pontiac dragster at the time..
Great video!

Thanks! Didn't realize they were working with roller-cams back in '58. The cars have changed, the Safety aspect has definately changed, Styles have changed..... but the friendly attitude that we all share remains unchanged!

My grandfather had a crane roller in a 300" 283 in 1959, had to bring his block to FL from TN to get it set up, at the time there wasn't a full body in the area that could run with his '55 Bel Air.
What gets me is I hear people not wanting to step up to a roller cause it's "new" technology.

Very Cool.
The flagman reminds me of the early days at Island Dragway in Great Meadows NJ...
The old Chrondek timers with the nixi tube readouts were also cool... the time digits were indicated by a "glowing neon element" opposite the numeric digit - they were arranged in a circle running from 0 to 9, there was one tube for each position. Then they had to convert the numeric speed trap reading to MPH by manually looking it up in a speed chart.

Makes it so hard to look at our "advanced" society today. A view of the generation that had everything to look forward to. 50 years later and the dream is gone. The video is as clean as their white tees and as pure as the air looks. Cant remember last time saw a white tee... Thanks for the look back.

I bought my first roller in the 56-58 time frame. It was an Isky kit which included roller cam, roller lifters, valve springs and a hi-rev kit. This was one of the then famous Isky 5 Cycle rollers.
dam you are really old I was at the tracks sporting cloth diapers with huge safety pins

Not too difficult to download from Youtube, but if you go HERE you can download it in a format of your choice - including 400MB hi res MPEG4 (in two parts). They've been hosting this on the web since before Youtube existed! Great film
