I'm hoping someone can help me to determine which one of these clusters is correct for a 71 Cuda. As you can see the fonts are different on the speedometer. Also on the back of the speedometer housing is what appears to be a 4 digit date code stamped in ink. Its' close to where the cable attaches. Is it a date code? Thanks for the help.

The one in the back is more correct for 71. The one in the foreground is for 70 Challenger only.

The foreground one is what I have in my AAR...and every other non-rallye '70 Cuda I've seen.
I think '71 Cudas had the same one as the '70, but not absolutely sure about that.
The rear one looks like some sort of later Challenger one?

I stand corrected. Just checked a friends 70 Cuda and has the one in the foreground.

The original speedo in my wife's '70 Barracuda looks like the front one, while the back one looks like the one that we pulled out of my buddies '71 Challenger conv. I've seen them in '71 Barracudas as well though. Is it correct?...beats me.

I tend to see the foreground speedo in a lot of '72-74 std dash E-bodies as well.

The gauge in the foreground (numbers on the inside) is the one in my '71 Cuda. The background one (numbers on the outside) is for a '70 only I believe. (photo is of dash when I bought the car a couple years ago).

I noticed in Screamindrivers pics of the dodge cluster, that the small gauges are different than mine. Mine are the Plymouth style in both clusters. Maybe a year Thing? My dodge one is dated 0461. The Plymouth one is dated 3079. At least I think that's the date codes.

Anyway, thanks for all the help guys...

That's because you have a cluster that someone changed the speedometer on. The cluster Screamindriver refers to as a dodge cluster is the standard cluster used ONLY in 70 challengers. 70 challengers had many unique dash parts. Even the optional clock has a unique face/arms.

The cluster Screamindriver refers to as a plymouth cluster is correct for 70-74 barracudas & 71-74 challengers. In 71 dodge dropped all the unique 70 only parts in favor of using the same stuff that was in barracudas.

That's the truth of it...
