So I've been getting my motor stripped here today to take to the scrap yard, and have been having second thoughts. I could potentially store the motor I think, but up till now was planning on scrapping it.

I saw this morning that the motor is the original 361 that came in the car. It's just a run of the mill 66 satellite with a/c 2 door hardtop car.

What would you do? I am putting a 383 in the car now.

Eric

Can you spell "matching numbers?"

I'd squirrel it away. I don't think I'd want to part with an original engine. Worth $ or not, it's that only original engine for that car.

As with any car, you are just the current caretaker. The next buyer may pay MUCH more to have the original engine with it. When I sold my 68 Dart GT convertible, the original 318 has managed to stay with it through 3 new owners. I am afraid the latest owner might not care as much since he is a Moparts member and flipper...

If it were me I'd keep it, unless it is junk (not rebuildable)

The early 361s were superb..
Typically they had higher nickel content.
If it hasn't been bored and/or wasted that could make a sweet engine with bore and stroker crank...

Just my $0.02...

That is good info all thanks for reaffirming the little voice in the back of my head.

I had no idea that the early blocks had some more desirable properties... My 383-496 in the dart is from a 65, and t 383 I got to put in the car is from a 66 also! Thanks sinistro!

A matching numbers run of the mill 361 vs $12/100lb scrap, I'd take the scrap solution

Reality check, that half the population is smarter then 50% of the people and it's a constantly contested fact.

I hope that's full of sarcasim, which is hard to detect on an internet forum.

because at $12/100lbs? seriously? so for that block, you'd get what...$28? maybe $30? those blocks aren't that heavy, I can pick one up my self and move it around. I picked up my 383 block and put it in the back of a truck bed. I figured it would be easier and faster than dragging out the hoist, finding bolts and chain, etc.

anyway, my point is that you'd be junking the ONLY MATCHING NUMBERS BLOCK FOR THAT CAR IN THE WORLD. once it's gone, it's gone. for a measly $30 in scrap metal, I'd keep it. it will surely affect resale value of your car by more than $30.
