Anybody ever try this? I don't know of any aftermarket heavy build coating that can duplicate the thickness or texture of the factory undercoating/sound deadener. I need to spray the quarters (inside trunk area) on my '70 Cuda as the orig. coating is falling off & losing it's adhesion after 40 years. Plus, after the car is finished, I'm going to spray the rear tubs & front fenderwells like factory. I'll have a pro do this with all the right application equipment so I get a heavy buildup.

What do you guys think? Also, can this stuff be painted over after it cures?

I've been using spray-on bedliner for the last few cars I've done for my cars and customers cars,...I like the results much better than "regular" undercoating......more expensive than undercoating, but offeres better protection IMHO, dosen't collect road dirt, dosen't fade out in "color"....easy to clean, and dosen't get softened or gooed if subjected to solvents, brake fluid, tranny fluid, gear oil, etc....IMHO I'd never go back to using undercoating again regardless of the brand/application

The stuff in rattle cans is just thick paint and won't offer diddly in the way of protection or hiding flaws. If you want to go the bedliner route(and I think its a great idea), take the car into a place that does the Rhino-liner type of stuff and let them have at it. They can even custom-blend colors so you don't have to paint it.

Resto rick sells undercoating that's supposed to duplicate the factory texture and look. I just use regular napa undercoating and apply it with a schutz gun. The texture looks good to me and with my cars I care more about how well it performs than what it looks like.

I've tried Body Schutz & it is fairly heavy build, but smoother & not as thick as the OE stuff. There's NO WAY you can get the heavy buildup like the factory stuff (1/4" thick?) out of a spray can or conventional sprayers. There's 2 things almost impossible to duplicate to the factory: thickness & texture. That's why I'm hoping the Rhino bedliner spray-on route.

I'm going with black, just like factory. He!!, I'd like to do this in white on my basement walls too. It would look good plus it would be a good Radon barrier & insulator. I wonder if it would adhere well to concrete? It would be very expensive I would guess, plus I don't know if they could do it portable???

Speedliner claims to adhear to nearly anything including block and concrete. It's portable, my buddy took is system to customers. One was inside garbage trucks, the other was fire truck tool bins.
I belive Huffman's in Hadley uses it in his restorations.

I used it to do some touch up areas on this car and inside the trunk. Covers nice and looks good when it dries. However you need to have the place vented and wear a mask! I opened the windowns, and had a big fan in the doorway.

One think to keep in mind for better or worse, is you can almost never get the stuff back off... I would make sure you are "done" with your project and it is they way you want it before doing it.

Also, if you are going to do a 'concourse' paint dab resto someday, you will have to remove it...

I used the spray can stuff after doing some welding on the wheel well and had one hell of a time getting it off when I went to fix the car "right"...

it has its good points, that is for sure...
