My 1970 440-6 block has the entire vin stamped on the pad (not just the last 8 digits), and it's a January 69 cast block with a September 69 build date for the car. Does that all seem right? It's a Lynch road car if it would make a difference. Thanks

I would say NO.
Full VIN# stampings were used during the first half of the 1969 model year.
I have NEVER seen an authentic '70 model year engine with the full VIN#.
What is the engine assembly date off of the top pad?

I'll have to check that. I know it does have F 440 HP stamped on it, but I guess that doesn't mean much.

The front pad still has the original milling machine marks on it and has the following info:
F 440
11 12HP2
I expected to see three numbers, month/day/sequence number, so I'm not sure how to decode the build date. Does anyone have any thoughts? Like I said, it has a Jan '69 casting date on it and the car has a Sept '69 build date on the fender tag.

November assembly date vs a September SPD?

I would also say "NO" based on the full VIN stamping (just as Dan said). Beyond that SPD's were just scheduled dates, so it's POSSIBLE that your car was built 2 months later than your SPD shows, but it's out of the realm of normal based on what I've seen. I'd do some more digging on that one for sure, get some REALLY clean close up shots of all of the engines stampings as well as those on the transmission and post them here (with the paint cleanly removed from all areas with numbers).

Only last 8 digits on a 70...

Thanks everyone. I agree with you, it doesn't look good. One more thing, the milling machine marks aren't visible any more on the vin pad. It looks like it was sanded. It looks completely different from every other block I have. I appreciate your help.
