I am building a 273 (and will do whatever you say:)
It is for a streetcar but will probably take it to the strip sometime. its going in a -68 Valiant with 904 and 3.23 gears with 340 ex manifolds, and probably a Tci breakaway verter.
Cam is small comp 268h.
I know its not much of a racecar but i really want to make it as fast as i can.
I got cam and carb and compression.
I plan on going with the 1.6 ex valves becouse of the poor stock valvejob (only one angle) and becouse i dont see how it could hurt.

Question is would i benfit going with 1.88 int valves?
Ofcourse with cyl bore notches.
How would you do the heads for this build?
As said its not a real racecar but please help me out here.

if you have to use the 273 heads, then yes it would be good to bump the ex to a 1.60 valve and pocket port the bowl

I better head would be a closed chamber #302 318 head

cant hurt go with the 1.88 valve, but the shrouding is the hold up in flow..even with bore notches

I have just went 1.60 ex and hoged out the ex bowl/port on some back yard engines, that gave a good bit of pop to it for the effort

you gonna flow bench them?

yes i prbably will.
But i would like to have them flowed fisrt with the 1.78 and then with the 1.88
and since this build has cost me almost nothing flowing the heads will be the most expensive work.
I just finished porting one ex port and to me (novice) it looks really good.
a little more blending when the 1.6 is in.
Will get some pics soon but right now i am packing my bags to go to the Canarie Islands (sp) for a nessesary vacation

I would go with 318 heads...save the 273 ones for the matching numbers crowd
I could flowtest them for free if it helps
but you have to come here and set them up on the bench yourself...

-65 Valiant,420", all motor,2700#, dot tires, 8,42 @ 160,2

the numbers matching guys aint getting these heads and i like the closed chamber design.
What i really like to know is if i would benfit going with the 1.88 int valve or if it only will slow the port down considering its for a 278 cui motor.
One more qustion does anyone know if it is possible to do a 30 degree valve angle with these stock tulip type valves?

put in the 1.88

Don't worry about slowing the port down, it will work well.

How big should i go on the intake valve?

Reason i ask is that i have a set of ferrea 5000 series stainless 2.02 valves that i dont have any other use of. so im thinking of turning them down to the desired size. Also with the ferrea valves i can do a 30 degree valve angle.

What do you think?
