hi, i just took off 383 hood decals on 71 RR, i used klean strip aircraft brand decal remover no. EAD-908 from body shop supply, about 15.00 a spray can. it works after a few times sitting on it, these are some tough decals! it didn't hurt original 71 paint underneath.
my main concern is not to soften or deface the part..

I like 3M adhesive remover but I've never tried it on something that old.

The 3m stuff is the best I've ever used. What is that piece made of?

Harbor Frieght has cheap ones. I use their junk all the time for one shot applications. If you were going to do a lot of them, I would invest in quality.

be careful with a real heat gun though, don't get the part too hot...since it's not fiberglass, but something similar, who knows how it'll hold up to heat. you try a razor blade and scrap it off? be really careful to not scratch the part though, since it's not glass or metal
