I have installed a disc brake conversion kit from SSBC. I am in the process of mounting the brake booster and master cylander to the fire wall. On further inspection, i found the push rod to be too long. i havnt bench bled the master cylander yet, was going to do it when i mounted it to the fire wall since i dont have a workbench and vise. My question is can i push the rod in more with no fluid in it, or am i going to have to cut the rod down about a 1/2". Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Call them. If your car was a manuel brake car it had a rod around 6.25 long. The power brake cars had a pivot linkage and is shorter. Was that kit designed to convert manuel brakes to disc or just drum brake to disc?

It's important to have 1/16" to 1/8" gap between the brake pedal push rod and master cylinder piston when they are installed. So, yes you must shorten the rod. If the rod is too long usually the front calipers will take a small bite on the rotors or worse the more too long it is. Also, make very sure the push rod cannot fall out by pulling up on the brake pedal or you could have a really bad day.

master power brakes has an adjustable brake rod for about 30$,very nice piece

I used it when going disc and to an alum 2 bolt MC on the 68 Dart

just went manual on the 85 truck, the rod is 6 3/4 long

IMO,you need to bleed the MC by hand first, just hold it by hand and pump it with the rod by hand..not hard to do

you have some one hold the bleed tubes for you
