1969 and up is on the right side, below the motor mount where the pan/block mate. There is a machined pad that has the numbers stamped in.

Also, if you look next to the distributor on the machined pad there, you should see some #'s and date codes.

Would help if you mentioned the model/year.

1968, the numbers were stamped on the back of the block where the trans/block mate.

VIN May not be stamped..

I have owned two '68 383 A bodies and have a block from a '68 383 Dart, and none of them had VIN stampings. Don't know the percentages of stamped vs. not (don't know if anyone does) but it's not uncommon to have no VIN stamping in '68.

68 was the first year that a vin would be required. In a recent post I was told after Jan 1 1968 all should have been stamped. In this same post it was also said some plants started earlier than others. Of the three 68 RR's I recently have had all were stamped and all were St Louis cars, but only one had a spd earlier than 1-1-68.

That's a #'s matching engine and auto trans. Man. tranny's weren't stamped on the bellhousing but on the machined pad on the R side of the tranny.
