I have a Brand new 1/4 inch thick 6061 T6 motor plate . I was told to use YAMABOND (the stuff that seals casehalves on motorcycle and snowmobile engines) and NOT to use gaskets... I rebuilt snowmobile motors in the 1980's and 1990's and used YAMABOND without issues... Does ANYONE use stuff like that in place of water pump gaskets????? BTW,,, its a 4.5 inch bore WORLD PRODUCTS 440 block stroked to 572..

I use gaskets on both sides of plate w/ spray adhesive (just enough to stick). As long as the plate is smooth you should not have any probelms. By the way mine is a big block, never did one on a small block. I think silicone may be better on a small block.

If you guys that use sealer have to take the water pump off at the track for some reason what do you do?

I've run my MP-15 gaskets on my POS motorplate that is all eaten from corrosion with NO sealers and no leaks either.

I drive it on the street, race it at the track and I know it's flexing all over up there and yet the nuts on my water pump studs stay at the same torque level un like others I've used in the past.

When I pull my motor (soon I hope) the gaskets WILL go back on for another reuse.

Those MP-15 gaskets are great. I have a stack of them now in my toolbox for a bunch of different applications. Great stuff, thanks for developing those for Mopars.

What material are they made out of Greg? It be nice to have some dead soft aluminum or copper.

The MP-15 material was originaly developed for the heavy duty diesel market. Designed to maintain bolt torque on low to medium torque applications. This material does not wick fluids as may be seen with some carb base gaskets or intake gaskets when they get fuel soaked. When this happens it brakes down the binders that hold the polymers and fibers together and then you start the degeneration of the gasket. This MP-15 material also has a high shear and tensil strain rating and is very flexible.

i have Mezzaires reverse flow pump. with std water pump gaskets they leak as they don't line up the holes correctly.(why do gaskets have D shaped holes? ). anyway i make my own gaskets with round holes, smear synthetic grease on them & have had zero failures in reguard to water leaks, my gaskets also get recycled a few times & it's so easy to clean up. one wipe with the rag & we're done & the grease seems to prevent the ali motor plate from pitting. kind of a win win situation. gaskets are made from the packaging from the beers that go in the frig. howzat for recycling?
