You don't have to run a mid plate with a motorplate.

It is advised though to run some type of forward/aft limiter if just using a motor plate. Alot of guys run a motor plate and the stock trans mount

It should be ok...But...If your making good power,700-800+ a mid plate wouldnt be a bad idea. Once its installed its easy to see the benefits of a mid plate... You really need to have the converter made for a mid plate, you might get by with a stock one and a 8th inch thick one. Although 1/8th steel is available it twisted my homemade mid plate like a pretzel behind a 850+hp Wedge...
As stated run a good poly mount a limiter etc.

You dont have to run a mid plate but they do help
stiffen the chassis.... a rubber type trans mount
and limiter or limiters... I run 2 limiters(thats
just me). A .090 steel mid plate is minimum, which
is what I run and that way I didnt need to extend
the nose on the converter

We run one in the 63.
I'd rather have it and not need it.
than need one and not have it.
also makes it nice when pulling the engine, with a couple bolts left in the trans though the plate holds the transmission where in belongs.
