" The Egyptian " is alive and well and still in business. I saw him last Summer at a local cruise-in. I believe that he did paint all of Bill Stepp's race cars back in the day. His real name is Don Boeke ( pronounced bow - key ). FYI...his business address is 1953 E Third Street, Dayton, OH. His business phone number is ( 937 ) 252 0401.

Here's my old Pro Stock car, also painted by the Egyptian. He worked with Roach, Ed Newton and Ed Roth during the seventies. My neighbor is family friends with him. If you want an old school paint job, he is the surviving Master. Dig the Saran Wrap candy paint!

Pretty sure the guy that did this car is reponsible for most of those Truby Collection cars. I love this stuff.

Ok, I just got the answer via email. The guy that painted this GTX, a similar white/purple GTX and many others (but obviously not all) on that site is... Bob Sadano from Moosic, PA(up near scranton).

Just got off the phone with Arlen Vanke

Arlen stated that Greg of Akron worked out of Arlens shop and did in fact paint the Bobby Yowell car, Judy Lilly's (see attachment) and 3 or 4 of the '68 SS cars.

He also did some work on the Motown Missle, Walt Arfonz jet car and the Bob Motz jet Kenworth to name a few.

Cheapst if you want to know if Greg of Akron painted a particular car let me know

I always loved his style. Arlen told me Greg passed away a few ago. Is there anyone that's kind of duplicating his style? I realize a good airbrush artist could copy alot of what he did but the ideas (?) behind his style are hard to reproduce unless you knew him & understood his perceptions in regard to painting...

From what I remember, it cost a $1,000(local quote) or so back then to have a car painted lace and or cobweb and murals. Today, if you could find an artist to do it I wouldn't be surprised for it to cost $10,000.
Juan Parker in Columbus,Ohio painted many(hundreds) race cars, vans and Harleys. Not sure if he is still around..or alive. He was a mopar guy

I think if you were paying someone to do the work, it would be expensive. When doing lace, if you slip you start sanding. Cobweb and smoke are a little more forgiving. Air brushing can sometime be cleaned up.

Greg of Akron got TONS of credit. He made it HUGE during the van craze in the seventies. I remember you could go to any discount auto parts store in the country and buy his artwork on vinyl decals. They had big squares for the back doors of your van or car decklid, huge long panels for the side of your van, etc. Tons of different designs. Check out the ads in any of the early to late seventies Petersen mags.

I don't know what cars he all painted but there was a guy near Hamburg Pa. by the name of Ron Hammerly that did alot of metal flake and custom paint jobs. I remember back in the day he did one or two of Sox & Martins cars.I know he did their super bird. He had a painter by the name of Ron Erho and the guy who did his Gold Leaf lettering was Bob Sterner.THe three building are still standing today but not a body or paint shop. [ Ron Hammerly also had two super stock mopars but haven't seen any pictures in years]

THanks Moparts

Always loved Greg's work since I saw the Yowall Duster in a magazine when I was a kid. Really good custom paint like that will never go out of fashion for me....

On wednesday when I spoke with Arlen Vanke he also said that when he had the '68 Barracuda restored it took a crew of guys, 2 weeks to paint the detail on the car

When Greg of Akron did it originally he was done in 3 days

I'm sure there is something else I forgot in that conversation
