Well, I found another 48 Dodge, and went up to north Texas (Greenville, a little north east of Dallas) and picked it up yesterday.

This thing has been sitting in a field since 1970 when it was last driven. Pretty straight body with not too much rust. I am going to combine it with the pieces of my 48 1.5 ton and a Chevy step van chassis with 4bt Cummins diesel and make a hot rod flat bed.

I will probably end up selling off the chassis, drive train, bed, fenders, a hood, and cab. Hit me up with a PM if any of you are looking for some parts.

Man, they got a face only a mother could love. I have been told my truck was a 50, but is similar to yours with the same cab back window and box fenders. Maybe mine is older than 50.

48-53 have the same nose with only the grill and grill opening being different. Infact the 48 -53 trucks are pretty much the same trucks, body wise. The curved corner windows are an option that came on a large number of trucks. Bigger trucks used the same cab and the same nose but the fenders are different, because of tire clearance, the bigger trucks have larger wheel openings and many have fender extensions.

Here is a picture of my 50 cab, it was a 2 ton dump truck and has a 52 or 53 nose piece, notice the fender extensions? This truck had 24" wheels. Gene

Yea, pretty much the only differences between my 48 1/2 ton and my 48 1-1/2 ton are the front fenders, and the 1-1/2 ton has shorter running boards since it didn't have a bed.

Does the dump truck have wing windows in the doors? I can't really tell but it looks like it.

Quick google search, looks like trucks with the extra back/side windows had the wing windows too?

Thanks for the info. I was hoping to pin my year down closer. I will need some headlight buckets and trim later if anyone has parts. Also, were they all B-1-B-108

I will bet it was real fun getting that pick-up on that trailer, looks like it is nearly rail to rail. Reminded me of loading a non running Case loader/backhoe (hydraulic steering) on my middle sized trailer last summer.

They're not all B-1-B-108, that is the model for a 48-49 1/2 ton with 108" wheelbase

Here's a good link to how to break down the models and serial numbers found on the vin tag.

It was a pain getting it on the trailer, especially since we were working on a caliche dirt road on the only sunny day in 3 weeks. We started out using my little winch, but the wheels don't turn and we burned it up pretty quick, after that it was all come-alongs. We did have a huge Cat dozer that we drug the rearend over with to get it lined up perfect. Took us about 2 hours to get it loaded, but we didn't bend the running boards. I need to invest in a wider trailer or put the wider electric brake hubs I have on this one and cut off the side rails and fenders, but I keep buying all these projects...
