I have meant to make this post since I learned that the local Studka engine dyno that I use had been opertated (I don't know for how long ) out of calibration. I totally belived it to be accurate until I took one of my motors that had been dyno tested on it and haul it to another different brand down south of where we live now. There was a 100 HP and similar torque loss compared from the Studka and the DTS, the DTS dyno operator calibrated it before starting my tests I brought that motor back to the Studka and ended up hurting the motor. The Studka has since been calibrated correcting the error and it is now down around 100 HP from what it measued before DRAM, my apologies Now I have to figure out which parts to use to make the power I want DRAM, 2.25 HP per C.I. N/A is totally doable, not cheap tho I'm shooting for 1.46 HP per C.I.or higher on pump gas on my next motor

Thats a up front stand up comment to make. I think several of us thought about some of those dyno numbers, but hey, now you know, move on and keep chuggin. BTW, I know how to make DRAM cry..it isnt that hard...lol...

Way to go Cab! In light of all these 2+ hp per cube "claims" reported on the 'net lately--This is a welcome and refreshing change. I saw your posts regarding this engine and did wonder. Now I know my sanity is intact (for the most part) I have a dyno and somedays I wish it would give me the results I think it should but alas she is a harsh b!@#$. J.Rob
p.s. We've done 1.52 hp/ci on pump gas but it did take 2 cams and a tunnel ram.

So, DRAM was right? That's....weird!
I didn't say that, did I If I did that isn't what I meant ( I don't want him to get to a swelled head ) He said the dyno was happy, it wasn't happy, it was maladjusted All kidding aside he was right, the dyno sheets where inaccurate One other thing about my combination, the converter slippage calculations show it to be around 13 to 18 % slippage(depending on which motor is in the car with that converter) in the 1/4 based off of the playback tach I need to send it back and have it opened up and look at, probally do that the next time I have the car apart

Hey Cab, i sure never expected a public apology. i tip my hat to you. i know we've had some discussion/debate about certain dyno numbers in the past, but it's nothing to lose sleep over. it's all about getting accurate info from the dyno to help guide the tuning process. when the dyno is accurate, it just makes the process a lot easier and the on track performance will verify the data. i'm glad to hear you found the problem with the dyno. it'll make your work a lot easier in the long run. i'll share a short story with you about a related incident. i built a pump gas 505" combo for a customer some time ago. i couldn't get time on the dyno i usually use so i opted for one (stuska)i've used in the past. that combo made almost 750 HP on that day. the only problem was, in my mind, it didn't have anywhere near enough head or cam to make that much HP. i was pretty sure i didn't just stumble on to some amazing combo of parts to yield those kinds of numbers. i looked at all the data and it just didn't add up. i asked the owner about it and all he would say was that i built a really strong running Mopar. yeah, okay, whatever was what i was thinking on the inside. i thanked him for his time and went on my way. a few days later after much thought and wonderment on my part, i ended up taking it to the usual dyno, (superflow 901) now that it was available. guess what, 670 hp was the number. hmmm. this time all of the data from the dyno seemed to jive, scfm, bsfc, etc. etc. and i went on my way. the car ended up running the MPH and e.t. that would be expected for the weight and power. no real surprise, right? i called the owner of the first dyno to let him know i thought perhaps his dyno was just a bit happy and that either the correction factor used or the calibration probably ought to be checked. to my surprise his reply was, "yea, i know. big dyno numbers keeps everybody happy and brings in a lot of work for our engine shop". i just shook my head and wished him a wonderful day. what else could i do? anyway, thanks again, i humbly accept your apology...
