How much do you think it would cost to build a hemi if you bought
All your parts used from the Johnson's? 20-25K?

Id say $25k-$30k would get you close to complete used engine...But the experience wouldn't stop there. It would need all custom stuff, headers, oiling system..very expensive..its not like picking up the phone and ordering a Milodon oiling kit from Mancini racing. Those engine require dry sump systems, even down to the dist and ignition stuff...Ever hear the term "nickle and dime you to death" well this would be the hundred dollar bill ya to death equivalent.
Then if you break the engine, the pistons, crank, and rods...oohh is sends shivers up my spine thinking about the cost of one of these...
If you have plenty of money go for it...
But seriously though...The chassis will be another obstacle to over come when the engine is ready...
If you had a nice tube chassis car, and a honest $40K-50K to work with and you really shopped around...
LOL not trying to bum you out..but as around..there is a few guys on the board that's done it

Id say the transmission setup, would run you $10K for good used parts

I think that would be doable. Maybe less. you can get a complete running motor from Midway for around that, too.

Midway actually bought a bunch of his stuff. Engines, blocks, heads, what ever. They usually have stuff listed on ebay or can build you something. One of my good friends works there.

How about like this

Yes it can be done but not buying brand new parts. It will cost 3 to 4 times that.

Maybe enough of those engines and parts will trickle down to the rest of us? What kind of transmission/bellhousing pattern do they use?

The last time I was to the track there was a chevy running a PS hemi. Then across the pit lane there was pick up with 3 in the back. They must be available.
