There should be a metal ground strap, about 4" long, that clips onto the nipple sticking out of the sending unit (the one where your hose is connected). The other end of this band/strap connects to the steel fuel line itself (the one running to the front of the car). The ground strap basically skips over the short piece of rubber fuel line that joins your sending unit to the metal fuel line. If it's missing, and you don't have one, use a piece of heavy guage wire and see if it cures your problem. codfish

I just use a piece of 12 gauge wire and small hose clap on the sender outlet. Then I ground it to the body with a drill screw.Rocky

Do I have to drop the tank to change the sending unit?
If you have a Dana rear, maybe. Any other rear and you should have lots of room. In my 68 Dart, changing the sending unit wasn't a problem, until i put a Dana under it.
