I am in the process of building a 440 and am using the L2295F pistons and I was wondering how big of a cam can be used due to clearance issues. The engine is 68 block with no milling, stock stroke and stock length rods. The heads are eddy rpm's that have been milled .035. I will be using a roller cam. Also how much piston to valve clearance is neccesary to be on the safe side?

remember correctly that piston number is a high compression forged race piston, comp. ratio from 9.3 to 13.7 depending on engine specs. That being so then the valve to piston clearances will be determined by the cam lobe. rockera ram ratio, deck hieghts, head gasket thickness and so on. I have used that piston in many bracket motors, I have used solid lifter cams from Isky, Mopars '590" and solid rollers cams from Crane Cams, Cam dynamics and so on. Many solid roller race cams will fit in there and some solid lifter cams won't, you will have to try them first, check VTP and intake lobe timing. I would bet money that a lot of solid lifer cams with 260 degrees or less duration at .050 ground on 110 LSA will fit and a lot of solid roller cams with 270 degrees at .050 on 108 LSA will fit also, using 1.5 rocker rm ratio rockers. as far as how much VTP is safe will vary with each persons safe zone, mine is .050 on the intake valves(I check all of them) and .060 on the exhaust( check all of them also ) using light checking springs. I build a lot of Mopar B and RB motors, I have a large stock of new and good used solid roller cams in stock, I am a dealer for Comp Cams also and have them make me a lot of custom ground solid roller cams, PM if interested.
