PROBLEM with kick panels is that there is very little room behind them.
Years ago, in my Challenger, I ran 4 x 6" plate speakers (2 way) behind the kick panels...fit perfect. Just used black grill cloth over the speaker and mounted them from behind the kick panel, so when you glanced down sitting in the car, you'd hardly notice them.
Those in the front and 6x9 rear worked fine.

There was someone on the restoration part of the site that bought some kick panels or created their own and looked very nice. That was a while ago try a search. I know it was in a ebody also.
What was I thinking....

Aside from destroying a good door panel, another reason to avoid speakers in the door is that they will last about six months before the speaker cones start deteriorating. Using a waterproofing membrane behind them helps but destroys the sound by making the effective enclosure too small to enhance the speaker. Bass and midrange need an enclosure to enhance their sound. That is why package tray speakers with the trunk as an enclosure sound so good. To get the stereo seperation, I have used a pair of small Infinity tweeters and a capacitor cross over on brackets under the dash for the fronts and used coaxial 6X9s in the back to handle the bass and midrange.

First off this cd player has a wiring cluster with a plug for a newer car. Not going to work here. I figured i would have to cut / splice wires to make it work unless there is a (plug-in )kit for this car. Anyone know of such a kit??? N
Not sure what kind of plug you have, but a guy on eBay sells all sorts of different factory stereo pigtails (both male and female) for different models. Another fellow in Florida who upgraded my factory radio to 4 speaker and CD capability (the work was great except for the plug) used a plug from Radio Shack which was a POS. Two pins pushed out/collapsed on the second plug-in. I bought some Acura/Honda male/female pigtails to used which have the same color codes for wires (LF+ speaker, LF- speaker, etc. etc.) which made it easy to sub (except for the 24 pairs of wire solders and shrink wrap to replace the pigtails).
EBay guy, IIRC, was Autoware302. Might take a little searching around to find matching male and female harness ends, but they are there somewhere.
